The Wagner Group is the Dirty Dozen only 50,000.

Encouraging news, now who is going to rebuild Ukraine when this war is over? I don't think there will be much cash left in Russia, Putin is probably shipping it out of the country and has been for some time. .

ThirdOfFive 06-24-2023 09:06 AM

I can't remember the last time I intentionally read, heard or watched any news from that part of the world regarding the fighting between Russia and Ukraine, or any ancillary "news" generated as a result of it. No interest. They're two third-world countries ranked first and second among all the nations of Europe in total corruption.

They are also first cousins, often as not, historically speaking, part of the same country. Let them settle their differences however they will, without any interference from us--or any other country.

Nice to say, but that ship has sailed.. our country has already poured mega-billions $$$ into Ukraine, much less our contribution to rebuild the country.

I just watched a brief bio of Prigozhin.

Takes one to know one…….

Scary stuff all around.

The only problem with letting them solve their own problems is if we and other western countries hadn’t sent equipment and intelligence to Ukraine, Russia would have kept on going into the Baltics. Then we would be under treaty obligated to send troops. I would much rather send money and equipment to contain the conflict inside Ukraine. We don’t need to send our military off to fight another senseless war.

Thanks for pointing out the big picture.

Scary stuff.

If Putin looses power will his replacement be worse?

Two Bills 06-24-2023 12:02 PM

If the western alliances had not helped Ukraine, all the old eastern block would have been vulnerable.
It still is.
Russia soaks up loss of life like a sponge. Manpower and numbers have never been a problem for them. Life is cheap, and expendable
Also remember, neither the Atlantic or the Pacific is a buffer for the US any more.
If WW3 kicked off, all of the country will be in range and a target.

From DailyKos which has multiple daily updates since the Ukraine invasion began

Quote:

At 7PM in Moscow:

Lead elements of the Wagner mercenary force have reportedly reached Moscow Oblast and are continuing toward the city.
Bridges along the M4 highway have reportedly been blown to slow the mercenary army.
Putin’s plane has reportedly left Moscow and headed for his massive residence at Valday, about halfway between Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov has reportedly left the country for Turkey.
Fuel tanks around the city of Voronezh are burning after the Russian military bombed them to keep them out of Wagner’s hands.
Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin has reportedly taken up residence in the former HQ of the Russian Southern Military Command at Rostov.
There are reports of Russian military forces departing Ukraine in an effort to stop Wagner, along with rumors that some of those forces intend to join Wagner.
It’s been less than 24 hours since Wagner leader Prigozhin indicated he would take his forces into Russia, and about 18 hours since the Kremlin responded with a call for a “criminal investigation.” All that now seems ridiculously dated. Events in Russia are moving fast.

And there we have it -- reality check.
