A near hit

Yesterday, my wife and I were exiting a very busy, complicated, long, sweeping exit off of Interstate 4. Traffic up on the highway was at it's peak.

As I made the exit, I saw a Mercury Grand Marquis stopped 1/2 way down the ramp with his back-up lights on. He apparently had gotten off at the wrong exit. I swerved to the left as he began to back up toward the interstate.

I went around him on the grass as he continued to back toward the highway. My wife gasped as I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a tractor trailer barreling toward him. The truck went around him to the right in a huge cloud of dust, but the truck driver had to stop because of the panic. ( I guess to catch his breath)

All the while, the car continued to back up toward the interstate, with the obvious intention of backing into the high speed west bound traffic. I was too far down the ramp to see the end of the story, but I'm confident that it didn't end well.

Those are the people who live to drive another day (leaving havoc behind them) ...and innocent people die in accidents caused by their insane behavior.

The saddest part of this is that directly across from the bottom of the ramp was a West bound ON ramp. Had he gone straight ahead for 30 seconds, he would have been back on the Interstate.

Gee I thought I had asked about your original post as to it's title "florida state vehicle" this am. Was curious and merely asked a question..........guess I was deleted as asking too sensitive a question?

orlando is very fast paced,
no one cares for outher drivers and will not take the time to do the right thing and drive properly,
and keep every one safe.....

OMG, how scary. How did he/she miss (not see) the near miss with the tractor trailer? The driver must have been on alcohol or drugs.

Brings back a scary memory

On my wife and my first trip to Orlando, we were driving our rental car over a steep overpass over railroad tracks. Three lanes in our direction, we were in the middle lane, 50 mph speed limit. As we crested the overpass, there was a car STOPPED in the center lane with two people reading a map!!!! OMG! We had no place to go as there were cars on both sides of us. We barely were able to stop in time. Why don't people just bite the bullet and pull off into a parking lot to read a map. Just like your story. Just continue on and get back on the highway at the next entry.

Practiced on 495

They must have been from Long Island. We used to see that on the Long Island Exp. several times a day. Unfortunatly they weren't always near misses.Just because you have a liscense doen't mean you can drive. Truck driver probably had to change his pants.
