question concerning pickleball sign-ups required
 

I notice that in the Recreation News that under Pickleball at each centre it has
"pickleball 7 am-Dusk-sign-ups required."

I know that we have to sign up for pb101,102 etc at least a week in advance, does it also mean we must sign up for open play instead of just going and lining up. This will be my first year playing in The Villages although I have been playing at home for 8 months and look forward to participating while in The Villages. I am looking for a little guidance about playing in the beginners open and the open times.

I'm only guessing but it could be now that the snow birds are here you may have to reserve court time.........

Douga....what state are you coming from? I haven't seen pickleball courts as much as tennis courts. LI and TV are two that have this great play.

I am coming from Canada and we just convert tennis courts to pickleball courts and have been playing inside in a school gym lately.

It's good to sign up for 101, 102,& 103. If you know the rules and can play just go to a begginers open an get in line. Many of the opens will have intermediate and expert players.

Why does it say "sign-ups required" on the heading for pickleball for each rec. centre. It does not specify what you need to sign up for or if it is for open play as well. I know you usually just had to get in line to play in open play.

Just go down to the Centers and get on line. No sign up. If they want to check the players, they come in and ask everyone to show their passes.

In. Not on. In. Get IN line. It seems odd until you try it a few times.

I see in the rec news what you are talking about , but believe me, that is a miss print. Open play is at every rec area from 7 to 10 am ( 7 to 11 at Hacienda ) NO SIGN UP IS REQUIRED. You just show up and get in line with the rest of us. If you have been playing for 8 months as you say, then 101, 102 are probably a waste of time for you. These are primarily to introduce new players that dont know the rules , etc. I would look for "beginner open play" and advanced beginner clinic in the rec news ( see page 58 in the most current rec news ). At beginner open play you can talk to the players and see where they play in the morning at regular open play. Certain rec areas attract different skill levels. Lake Miona attracts more advanced players. Pimlico has intermediate and some advanced players. Laurel Manor has mainly intermediate and some lower advanced players. I am not really sure where beginners tend to play at open play.

Per villages rules, anyone can play at any courts, however you may not be embraced with open arms at some of the more advanced playing areas if you have beginner skills.

Once you feel you are at the intermediate level, I teach an intermediate clinic at Lake Miona the first wednesday of the month ( although in Jan. it will probably moved to another day as I will be in Maryland on the first wednesday.) It is designed to help bring the intermediate player to the advanced level.
