Animals in restaurants and food stotes.

Service Animals
Understanding What is Allowed
Service animals are not required to wear identification or a vest and food establishments may not request documentation showing they are a service animal. Service animals are required to be housebroken to be with and under their handler’s control. Animals that fail to meet these behavioral requirements iiimay be removed from a business at any time. In these instances, their
handler must be granted an opportunity to receive goods or services without thep animal present. In addition, service animals must be on a harness or leash unless this would interfere with the animal’s task, or the
handler’s disability prevents the use of these devices.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has also indicated that food establishments are not required to allow service animals to be placed in shopping carts or use seating, food or drink provided for customer use only.

Penalties for False Representation

Those who represent an unqualified animal as a service animal or service animal in-training are guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by one or more of the following:
• Imprisonment for not more than 90 days.
• A fine of not more than $500.00.
• Community service for not more than 30 days.

Action by Food Establishments. If it is not obvious what task a service animal provides, a food establishment can legally ask these two questions:
1. Is the animal a service animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?

Yes, we do. Hope someone starts another thread about picking up after your dog.
Better yet…someone start a cat thread

Fredster 08-15-2023 06:12 PM

These threads will continue to appear as long as there are so many inconsiderate, thoughtless dog owners and those that rationalize and justify their behavior!
It is not the dogs these threads are about!

No dogs in food stores/restaurants and pickup their dog poop.

This is a recording.

JGibson 08-16-2023 07:20 AM

I'm having Deja vu.

I guess the 10 page thread ran its course. lol.

As you say, THAT, is the problem. Which needs to be addressed. There has been too much abuse by people of the term “service” animal. Just like when people run the stop signs, a different type of law and enforcement is needed.

In addition, emotional support animals are NOT service animals.
Leave your mutt at home. No one cares how "special" you think your animal is. All you are accomplishing is validating your vanity & ego!

Florida administrative code rule 64E – 11.0036C says no animals in a food service establishment

People will argue about most anything. Service animal? You can buy the certificate and the vest on Amazon. Food stores. Your dog that picks up fleas and walks in who knows what does not belong in a food store.
Parking for disabled? Some seem to think they are qualified because they paid for their sons medical degree. It is stealing from those who truly NEED.

I am guessing there will continue to be repeats of this thread as long as inconsiderate and entitled people continue to bring their dogs where they shouldn't be.
