Golf cart insurance

Just got my first golf cart – basic gas model. Now looking for insurance. I assume golf cart insurance is much like car insurance on a smaller scale – liability, collision, etc. What should I look for in a policy (deductibles, etc)? I once had motorcycle insurance with Progressive, is that a good place to start looking? And about what premium should I expect? Thanks for any tips!

Great prices, no obligation quotes. Ask for Sharon.

You may want to contact whoever you have your auto insurance and homeowners insurance with. I would expect it will cost you less that way. Probably a good idea to review your insurance at the same time.

We use Foremost Insurance for our two carts. Have not had a claim. A relative who had worked for TV Golf Carts pointed us to them because they paid golf cart damage claims better than other companies. Supposedly, other companies do not take into consideration the "premium" carts we have and base claims on run-of-the-mill golf course carts. FYI - I also belong to 24 Hour Cart Club in case I break down (which has happened - electrical).

Foremost has a special number for USAA members too

Foremost raised my rate. 50%. State Farm charged my old price. Let villages insurance shop for you first, then compare with others

I have mine with Alstate. About $60. Covers me in the complex and also when I leave (not all policies do).
I do not have the insurance with my homeowners insurer so if I have a claim on the golf cart it does not affect the homeowners. If you have an umbrella liability policy be sure your cart insurance meets the minimum liability coverage,

That’s much lower than any quotes I have had and lower than my current policy. I realize different coverages drive different premiums. May I ask, do you have an umbrella policy? And at that price point/coverage is your umbrella underwriter satisfied with the level of liability coverage?
Thanks!

We use the Villages Insurance and they have us with Foremost . Last year I asked them to check around and all they came back with was Progressive for $100 less. I passed because I didn’t want Progressive so I am still with Foremost.

make it covers the full price of theft of the cart

ColtsFan 08-18-2023 05:40 AM

Our cart insurance is bundled in with house and car----we have Travelers through The Villages Insurance.

Not only can you get good golf cart insurance from progressive they will add roadside assistance about a fifth of what you would pay for one of these 24 hour clubs

Golf cart insurance is odd because you tell them what the value of the cart is, there is no real universal golf cart blue book.

I told them the cart was worth $15k and she quoted me a price and then I told her the value of the cart was $10k and she quoted me a much lower price.

So it's up to you to decide what it's worth and they will charge you accordingly.

This was at TV insurance.

Insurance is strange. You pay to have a company put a value on the risk. If, you say your cart is worth 15,000 and it is only worth ten they will of course charge you more. However,
should it be stolen or burned or whatever they will not pay you based on the inflated 15,000

We have been using Foremost, more for liability than collision because guests occasionally use one of our carts. If it was collision only I probably wouldn’t bother to insure. I am probably going to switch carriers because Foremost is a subsidiary of Farmers and they are pulling out of the Florida homeowners and auto market so it wouldn’t be surprising if they stopped writing golf carts as well. I’m going to check out progressive when the policies renew.
