The extension of the Bush tax cuts keeps everybody
 

status quo....your taxes will be no more or less than yesterday!
Obama is including a tax cut for the middle income (?).
And the seniors get a "nothingsburger" (John Boehner's description of Obama's meeting with 20 CEO's).

We only get the half that is allowed to charge more for services next year than we paid in 2010.

Of the billions and trillions being squandered they can't find enough to help those with fixed incomes??

I have a term other than nothingsburger but am restrained from being crude in open/public forums (self restrained that is :smiley:).

It's all just a game to them in Washington, campaigning for votes in the next election cycle as always.

They have their pensions for life, and they and federal workers have their choice of at least 22 private health insurance plans (and in some states, even more). And we pay most of their premiums - see link below for plans and rates.

Most of all, notice that the link begins with "opm" . . . Other People's Money.
Until a "healthcare reform" package puts them under the same "equal distribution" of waiting lists and inevitable rationing as we constituents have, nothing will change.

I expected to see something much worse,their rates do not seem any different from rates I and most people pay in company plans.That being said I do see some people in unions still get it free or next to free,In Il we have over 3000 school teachers getting pensions above 100k a year and the get cost of living increases.I think I read the one on the top is getting near 400k now lord only knows if they are also getting insurance on the tax payers dime.And also from what I have been reading it's very common for them to get promotions before they retire to boost their pension,also very common for police and fireman and I'm sure other public employees all at the tax payers expense

Jane52: By that token, if you have health insurance paid even in part by your employer, "we" are paying for that too since your employer gets money from it's economic activity.

Full disclosure: I work for the Air Force. And the health insurance I have is comparable to what I had in the private sector, costing roughly the same.

And, as a side note for anyone who didn't follow the link, the "OPM" in the link stands for Office of Personell Management.

Where have you been? OPM stands for Office of Personnel Management. The Federal Government retirees (of which there are a lot of in The Villages) have done an admirable career working for the people of the US. I worked for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs for 36 years helping veterans. Do not dare to talk down to us!

We have paid into the Civil Service Retirement Fund at a rate HIGHER than Social Security. We did NOT get a Cost of Living Adjustment either. We do PAY into a health insurance plan - Just like YOU do.

I suggest that you learn about what you are griping about BEFORE you write.

For my 36 years of government civilian work - and service in the US Army - I deserve and demand your total respect as well as for ALL other Federal retirees.

Yes, Jane52 did upset me, to say the very least. As a Federal retiree, I certainly do deserve no less than her full respect for the work I have done for the US. Yes, I do demand respect. It is something I worked for. I doubt if you would have anything less than full respect for your career, either.
