Article in the Wheels section of today’s paper listed the most American made cars. Did not see much from Dodge, Ford, or Chevy.
Number 1 was all models of Tesla and then a bunch of Hondas.
Way to go Elon Musk.👍🏼🇺🇸

This also applies to pickups. Honda makes the most American pickup. And they only make one model, the Ridgeline.

Surprised, thought Toyota had a lot of American content.

I decided to do a little research on this before answering as often what we think we know, we don’t. This particular question was no different for me.

My clicking did confirm one assumption I had, though, and that is that there are virtually no automobiles completely made in the USA. The more appropriate term would be “assembled” (and I think that most cars claiming substantial heritage list “assembled in USA” on the info. Sticker). Of the companies with the most American-assembled vehicles, Tesla (as stated) leads the list of the top ten with the top four, followed by, in no particular order, models made by Volkswagen, Honda and Acura. It is not until one reads well down the list, after the top ten, that what we assume are “American” models (Fords, Chevys, etc.) are noticeable and even then in no particular order. What we assume are “foreign” cars are liberally sprinkled on the list as well.

For me, considering that, value is more important than origin, and I’m as patriotic and all for “buying American” as anyone else.

I drove GM until they drove their quality into the ground, nearly went out of business, and then took a government bailout and shafted their investors. So then I drove Ford until they wanted $50K for a 4-banger to replace a 7-year-old V6 Edge that I'd only paid $25K for. The Chevy's were made in Canada and the Edge was made in Mexico. Now I drive a $30k, 3-year-old Kia that was built in Georgia, while wishing I could afford a used Japanese-built Toyota. The tranny in that Kia only has 15K miles on it and it's already acting up. And that "Android Auto" replacement for a real GPS never has worked. But the fake leather is pretty.

At least I still have my old '08 Ranger to fall back on. Those Mexicans can make great vehicle when those jerks in Detroit let them!

IMO it boils down to labor. Hard to compete with $5.00 hour tops in any manufacturing process in this country. It really don’t matter where vehicle assembled. That’s drop in bucket to actual components made which are common in all brands made were labor cheap. As far as pickups, in this country ford, Chevy, dodge, and big Toyota are the work horses.

IMO there needs to be more compact pickups to compete with ford maverick which they can’t build enough to meet demand. Toyota has compact truck in works for late 2024 which should cut into fords maverick sales. As far as made in America few products are totally made in America, it’s been that way for long time IMO. Maybe in another 50 years the cycle will return back. But I highly doubt it.

I wish I still had my 67 ford ranger, nothing on that truck I couldn’t fix. Had 2000 ranger and it was just as good with v6 cast iron block and heads. I got dream Maverick on order, dream is when and if I get it?

I like Ridgeline except for that rubber band driving the cams.

The Ranger was one of the best vehicles Ford ever built. But leave it to Ford to screw up a good thing. The year they terminated it, it was the best-selling vehicle in America. How dumb can you get? Then, when they finally relented and brought it back, the idiots made it as big as an '90's F150 -- which qualifies as small, since the F150 is now about as big as a Peterbuilt.

Good luck with your Maverick. Were you able to order one with a V6? When I tried to replace my Edge, the only option was a turbo-charged four-banger or a non-turbo-charged four-banger. They probably had an electric, too, but sometimes I like to drive farther than Orlando. I think I heard they're also working on an a rubber-band option for '25, but the winder sounds like too much work for an old man, and you probably can't get it with leather. I'd just wait for the Flintstones option.

No v6s and if it was option wouldn’t be cast iron. 2.0T or 2.5 hybrid are the only engine options. No all electric on mavericks yet. I sure it will come in future.

I’ve never had problem with ford engines. If you look at fords tailpipes the are clean no signs of black sot. I could get slightly used on for 5 to 10K over sticker price. I refuse to pay that. The maverick I ordered cost 30,125 dollars with the options I wanted.

I wanted truck I could get in my garage. I will not let my vehicle set out in driveway. One of few that can actually get car in garage in my neighborhood.

Yes, I believe it has to be replaced at 100K which not easy task. I have 12 accord with 4 cylinder it has chain. Best car ever owned. Not one problem, still looks and runs like new.

Depending on the production year Toyota used both timing belts or chain.
