Floor Tile Re-Glazing
 

Has anyone re-glazed their tile floors? Our tiles are a very mottled brown and we have heard that you can change the color through re-glazing. Since we need attention to the grout everywhere, we wanted to go through the floor project all at one time, and were hoping someone has done the re-glazing and has a recommendation. Thank you!

Never heard of reglazing but here are my thoughts:
1. Make sure if you go this route the final product will NOT be slippery when wet. Glazed tile tends to be very slippery when wet.
2. Grout work can be costly and dirty, depending on what you need to have done. Grout removal and reinstall is probably the highest cost. Grout deep cleaning, and following with repair of damaged areas, and a final coat or a colored sealant is probably the lower cost option.
3. Compare the cost of tile removal (takes care of grout problem) with the cost of "reglazing" and grout restoration.
4. Ask questions about the reglazing process and the expected life of the finish. Also, check on any possible (probable??) impact on the grout next to the tile. If this is a coating process, I could easily see the grout getting coated also.
5. You may need to sequence the work if the ground can/will be impacted during the reglazing, then you may have a problem if the grout work damages the new finish on the tile.
6. People are going to suggest installing a floating floor over the tile, be very careful if the tile is in the kitchen. You need to consider the height of the new floor in the area of the refrigerator, stove, and the dishwasher.
