What's your political bent? TV residents, only please

I know this thread sounds political, but it truly isn't. I just want to know how many are actually something other than Republican or conservative but too afraid to say it out loud. I'd also appreciate it if only TV residents (snowbirds, snowflakes ok) would vote. I'm beginning to get the feeling that TV has a lot more liberals than I thought considering how often I meet liberals who are afraid to admit/discuss their political viewpoints.

No one needs to add a response, this is just a poll.

Are the top two supposed to be republican?

redwitch 12-17-2010 09:13 AM

Oops -- started to make it Conservative and Moderate Republicans, but changed my mind. I'll try to edit it. Thanks.

redwitch 12-17-2010 09:16 AM

Nope, can't edit the poll itself, so I'm stuck with looking dumb. Oh, well, could be worse. Hope all you elephant lovers only vote the first choice. lol

PM Tony, I'm sure he can make the change.

rjm1cc 12-17-2010 12:22 PM

Good question and I am glade to see the differences.

gvsulakerfan 12-17-2010 12:27 PM

Easy enough to figure out scientifically.

Statistics for the registered voters in the tri-county area:

Sumter County:
Republicans: 31,612 (47.7%)
Democrats: 22,287 (33.7%)
Others: 12,307 (18.6%)
Total: 66,206

Marion County:
Republicans: 89,616 (41.7%)
Democrats: 83,205 (38.7%)
Other: 41,902 (19.5%)
Total: 214,723

Lake County:
Republicans: 86,783 (44.3%)
Democrats: 67,569 (34.5%)
Other: 41,440 (21.2%)
Total: 195,792

If you wanted to get real crazy you could analyze the statistics of registered voters at any of the 3 Supervisor of Elections websites. Get the excel spreadsheet, choose only precincts that fall within The Villages boundary and run some simple equations to figure out percentages of party affiliation... you can even analyze further based on sex or age or particular precinct to figure out just how republican, democrat or other your specific neighborhood is.

Or, you could just do a message board poll, a lot less work that way... :D

It goes both ways

That goes both ways. There are many independents, conservatives or libertarians who are afraid to admit/discuss their political viewpoints too, because of the poisonous labels applied when you simply disagree with, not "hate", the other side.

There are lots of other interesting topics to discuss and learn about besides religion or politics, as this website shows.

I do like the poll above, though. It's interesting and I think people are more forthright when voting in secret.

I removed the second Republican choice. It had not received any votes.

redwitch 12-17-2010 12:58 PM

Thank you, sweets. Jan may THINK he's the nice administrator, but we all know better. (Running and hiding now!)

JimJoe 12-17-2010 01:31 PM

Where do I fit? I am a tea party conservative who would vote Libertarian if they would drop their goofy position on immigration.
I sure do NOT want to be identified as a Republican.
Independent sounds like I do not stand for anything.
You should have just had a line for CONSERVATIVE.
JJ

redwitch 12-17-2010 01:40 PM

I thought about it, JJ, but decided I didn't want it to off in too many tangents. I actually considered not putting in independent since their political leanings are usually one way or the other with just a refusal to state. The main reason for the posting is that too many liberals and Democrats in TV are afraid to admit they are what they are and that's a shame. Liberal has become a dirty word. Democrat is not much better.

I thought it would be nice to let the non-Republicans see there are other, like-minded folks actually living in TV and to know they are real people even if they choose to be anonymous.

billethkid 12-17-2010 01:45 PM

Why would anyone be "afraid" to stand and be counted

for what they believe?
That would be a travesty and in many cases....dumb!

That was my thought too.

It could be that many people just don't feel the need to let people/everyone know their leanings.

graciegirl 12-17-2010 02:15 PM

Declaring your political leanings can lose you friends sometimes here in TV. Older people are VERY sure of their ideas on politics and sometimes do not have much patience or understanding or consideration for anyone elses.

We are perfect in every other way.:crap2:
