Tech issue

Internet up north going out intermittently- when this happen, all devices disconnect and require a power reboot of the modem to reconnect
Had neighbor shut the power main off for a few seconds and this worked well. Happened again and now the neighbor is out of town
Called both the ISP and modem manufacturer to see if they could do a remote reboot but both said they could not

Ant ideas for on how to do this remotely

I found this on Google search. Since you may be experiencing intermittent internet outage’s it may not be possible until outage is fixed, could be a network or modem issue.

How to Restart Router Remotely from your PC
To begin with, type in one of the four IP Addresses in the web browser to access the router homepage. ...
Then input the ID and password. ...
Now go to any of these locations [it depends on the router]. ...
You should see the Restart/Reboot button there, click on it.

If this is a frequent occurrence, just get a timer, and set it for once a day to turn off the power and then turn on after minimal time delay, the weekly timers seem to be much more expensive, and a short interruption around 2 or 3 in the morning should not be intrusive.

A wifi switch outlet set to turn per on and off once a day works also.

What are the IP addresses- and can this be done if you are not on the modems wifi network
also, i am sure it is ot a modem issue per se because it work after house main braker reset by neighbor- it is just that he is out of town now as well and cannot do it again

Are any of your neighbors affected with the same issues with the same ISP.
Even by installing simple analog timer persists you may need to have a visit from your ISP for further testing to modem/router.

Someone already responded with put a timer on the modem power input. I actually do that for both the modem and router. That's what I do and it has kept me connected for years. It is cheap and effective. I don't understand why your ISP provider cannot reset your modem unless the modem is yours and not provided by your ISP provider.

Can't help you here, but switch to fiber internet when you return, if it's available where you are. Mine stays up when the neighbors loose their cable. North of 466.

I have my router on a UPS. That will work for several hours.

The long and short of it is no. the router itself has a separate IP address than the modem. IF you can actually get the modem IP which isn't an easy task as it changes at least once a day, then you might be able to get to it.

Your provider is full of it they have the ability to control that modem.

With all that said, this sounds a bit wrong in all. it shouldn't need a power reboot, if it loses internet it will be fine once internet is back. I'd highly suggest getting a new modem as it may have an internal issue preventing it from acting normal.

I don't think that would help in this case as I need a power off/on reset to reboot the modem

Keefelane66 09-22-2023 07:07 AM

Available in article is a list of modem id addresses.

Just a moment....

Agree…I have a daily timer that powers down my modem/router at 1 am and back on at 1:15 am…a daily reset is good!

JRcorvette 09-22-2023 08:25 AM

Get a good quality UPS unit that will keep the modem running for at least an hour +
