clean up battery acid?
HI, My electric golf cart spilled battery acid onto the garage floor due to me overfilling it. Duh. How can I clean up the dried acid. The floor is the original concrete--nothing fancy. Thanks.

“ Neutralize the Acid To clean sulfuric acid, use a solution of one pound of baking soda per gallon of water. Apply with a cloth or sponge, and avoid splashing or spreading the acid. Use mild acids, such as lemon juice or vinegar, for alkaline batteries, and dab the spill area with a cloth.Apr 3, 2023” You may not need a gallon |
Thanks!

Add water only after charging is complete, to avoid overflow.

On old lead acid batteries I had water level was just above the plates. I never added water unless I seen the water level below the plates. Get water level too high and it will just get boiled out creating big mess not to mention corrosion problems. Even with at I still have spot on garage floor where the cart set.

And wear acid resisting gloves

I would liberally sprinkle baking soda onto the spill directly. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then mop it up with water. Using neoprene gloves while mopping up the spill would be wise.

Baking soda will neutralize the acid, wear old clothes , gloves and goggles.

Thanks!

same thing happened to me when I first moved here. No one told me about the overflow. But it happened on my painted driveway. Had to have the whole driveway sandblasted and re-painted. Only way to fix it.

It’s amazing how much has been lost since High school science and chemistry classes

You can buy a mat that will sit under the cart to protect your garage floor. A little locking the barn door after the horse has been stolen advice but it may help in the future.

Pault585, first thing is sounds like your overfilling your battery, you only put enough water in your battery to the bottom of the fill caps where you see the rings. I’m surprised you have any electrolytes ( battery acid) left in your battery. You better get you battery check for electrolyte levels!

Easier to just pull up to the gas pump.
