A million millipedes

HELP!!!! We are being over taken by Millipedes. They are everywhere on our lanai, side of the house, in the pool and now a few are even getting into the house. I have contacted Massey concerning this and they have sprayed twice but said really there isn't anything they can do and they will be gone by November. We have vacuumed them up and hour later there all over the place again....the walls, the ceiling and everywhere!!! It's like they almost come out of the concrete! I have put out sticky pads to catch some of them but I have so many I have to change out daily. Any suggestions? Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!

We had this a few years ago and Massey told us the same thing but said spraying is useless.

They did leave after awhile but apparently you have it worse.

They like moist places. Make sure you don't have a water leak anywhere and turn off your irrigation for a few days.

Ortho Home Defense

We sprayed with Ortho Home Defense (Lowes) and after about two applications, there was a noticeable difference and a decline in number of millipedes & earwigs/pincer bugs. A few still manage to make it inside, but this is primarily after heavy rains. Contractor told me this was not unusual as they seek dry ground. If I see one inside, they are introduced to my hand vac :D

No need for contracted pest services -- we take care on our own. We do, however, retain a service for termite control.

A couple of lizards have taken up residence on our lanai, so I hardly ever see bugs out there any more...

Usually this occurs the first year in certain areas and they look to take refuge inside your walls. I don't know if since I removed grass all the way around my side and back, and installed rocks on my side and back yard if it took care of it but no millipedes this year. Just only last year a few months apart in the rainy season like we are having. I never sprayed last year for bugs but something changed and no millipedes this year. I'm in the area of Citrus Grove so it happened in a new build area and was frustrating.

Be thankful you don't have a million rhinoceroses.

30% vinegar, in a Home Depo type spray bottle. Perhaps once a day, about 10 sprays per room or so, but the scent is strong, if you do your bedroom leave it yourself for a few hours. Not only do they shrivel up but they can’t stand the scent. Outside this treatment is not so effective.

Yes. This is my third summer here and first time I've seen them. They were really bad on the lanai for more than a month; ortho home defense didn't really deter them unless I soaked their body. It was like a bad science fiction movie and I was becoming obsessed with them. I am starting to make headway as I go out every day and spray the little buggers and then sweep them up. One or two will make it inside every day and I can easily crush them as they are so slow. I have a very clean, neat lawn and no beds/mulch/etc by the lanai. Hope next year is better.

We had them when we had pine straw bedding in our landscaping. Got rid of the pine straw (now bagged mulch from HD or Lowe’s) and the bugs disappeared - for the most part.

I have pine straw and have never seen a millipede anywhere on my property. And I garden all the time. Pine straw has nothing to do with them.

We, too, dumped Massey as they are totally worthless, but kept the termite stuff, but FL doesn’t have a termite problem, per UF. Twice a year I put a heavy boundary of Triazizide around the outside of our house and I spray Home Defense around all windows, doors, and garage. We don’t have bugs of any kind except mosquitoes and I fog for them!

Cinnamon!

My wife spread dry cinnamon in front of the front door entry and around the foot of the walls in our screened in entrance just before we went on a 4 days ago. Returned last night and found just a few dead millipedes in the front room BUT...
This morning, I opened the front door and there are hundreds of dead ones in and around the cinnamon. I am speculating that the cinnamon dried out the little buggers!
ALSO: CSI Bifen L/P granuales seemed to help in the past. Spread it just like fertilizer along all sides of your house.
Good Luck.

Agree. We have been here for going on 7 years and the first year we had a ton of them. I started using Home Defense every 60 days for all pests and I can count on my fingers how many of them enter our home in a year, very few, same with ants and spiders. Home Defense is safe, inexpensive, and easy to use. Others will say it doesn't work on these but it sure keeps them out of the house and lanai
