Perhaps a “rookie question” but why is it so hard to find a late model EV golf cart?

Having purchased a house here, I am looking for a late model electric golf cart with lithium ion batteries and upgraded (comfortable) seats.

I’ve been searching the classified ads here and elsewhere but can’t find anything that seems like it’ll work for me.

Is new ($23,000+) the only real option? I’m surprised that there aren’t more used carts for sale.

Do most used carts get sold back to the local dealerships?

Does anyone know (as a percentage) the proportion of electric vs. gas carts in The Villages?

Thanks for any insights.

Those who have them love them. It's also possible to upgrade a non lithium cart.

I would start at the Villages Golf Car store or the Villages Discount Golf Cart store to see what they have for new and used. If you want something good and with a warranty you should look at the stores. If I was to make a guess I would say 80% gas to 20% electric.

Yeah...Golf carts are stupid expensive. Try Discount Golf Cart or Bradley's in Wildwood.

I purchased a lithium cart from the villages golf carts 2 years ago. I’m not sure if they still offer it but it was new but refurbished? ( that’s not the right word ) anyway, I got to pick all the colors and features for the build. It did take several months to get but they gave me a loaner golf cart for the entire time. It was less than 13K out the door. I’m very happy with it and have never had an issue. They did try to sell me a Yamaha quiet-tech, they really push those but I stood firm. I absolutely didn’t want that engine noise. Or gas smell.

Units is current operation? I'd guess it's at least 20:1 Gas, maybe more.

Sale of New Carts? Probably 10:2 Gas

Electric Lithium didn't really become practical and available, until the last 3-4 years. 2 years ago, ClubCar didn't even offer Lithium as an available option.

Just a guess, but I suspect anyone who needs to sell an Electric Cart, has a list of friends and neighbors who want it.

There are gas or ev fans on this site. If you are using a cart just as a mode of transport we will use electric.

But we also play in multiple golf groups At courses that are 60-70 minutes away, plus play of 18holes (exec only short 9). New batteries, no worries, but as they age many of those we play golf with drive their gas cart. 140 minute drive plus golf no worries on new batteries, but the older carts they just don’t trust them.

But as I stated there are strong feelings on gas or electric in TV.

Our oldest gas cart was 2006 still going strong, along with a gas 2016.

If course is too far, we would get in car and rent, ride in cart is hard on the bones, lol.

We’d kinda hoped that we could buy something like this (refurbished with some personal touches) but that doesn’t seem to be an option now.

Plus, there’s a dearth of used electric golf carts. The cost for new is $23,000 which seems like a lot of money for a cute little cart.

Thanks so much for the many helpful responses. I appreciate it very much.

Welcome to TV, carts in the bubble will be the most expensive, out side of TV or even other states will get you a more reasonable price. Don’t forget you will need service on that cart down the road

If you want a golf cart with the best ride and handling (more car like) then find a Yamaha electric, years 2012 and newer. Usually, you can purchase these fairly cheap when the owner is motivated to get rid of cart and they do not want to deal with changing the batteries.
Then have a company like Battery Boys change to a lithium batteries system.
Keep in mind, you may on an older cart need to do various upgrades like comfy seats and maybe put on a new set of tires. All and all you will be far less expensive than the $23K you mentioned.

I've noticed more golf courses switching to lithium golf carts these days, so I expect these will hit the re-conditioned market before long. Several months ago, The Villages Golf Carts were selling refurbished EZ-Go lithium carts.

I have a white 2023 EZGO Lithium battery cart purchased from The Villages Golf Carts at Sumter Landing with all the goodies and upgraded seat that I need to sell. It’s my wife’s cart, we are snow birds and she has used it for about 4 months. If you are interested call me at 419/343-0135. Ken
