Speaking of CAR insurance !!

When our homeowners has renewed over the last 6 years I had been preparing for huge increases when they always turned out to be near nothing. We started ~about 6 years ago at around $800 and now it's just barely $1050 for a 2/2.

That brings me to car insurance. I had read that auto insurance is getting worse than homeowners here in FL. Our renewal is coming up Dec 1st and I got my "preview" package from The Hartford. Went up 50%! From $998 to $1550! I almost fell over. It's just 1 vehicle, a 2020 Kia Soul with under 25K miles in the 4 years we have had it. It does have "full coverage with highest limits but still. We have had no tickets or accidents for at least 10 years and both our credit scores are almost max high (which I was told makes a big difference). Obviously age is a factor but 50% !

So I got a few quotes with IDENTICAL coverages and not only did I find that companies (ALLSTATE, PROGRESSIVE so far) won't even write NEW CUSTOMER policies here but those that will make my renewal quote look cheap. Liberty Mutual wants $2400 for barely any coverage, and Geico wanted $1700 for barely any coverage.

Crazy.

Thank Morgan & Morgan for that.

Many high-price lawsuits, increased theft, a significant amount of cars totaled by hurricanes and other natural disasters, and higher costs of vehicles. A terrible mix for the insurance companies. I guess each of us will have to grin and bear it. The situation is probably not going to change.

This article provides several reasons why it is so high.

Why Is Florida Car Insurance So Expensive?

Not much we can do.

Try Travelers. That's the one I used & they only raised my premium $150 from my existing northern (Connecticut) premium. I don't recall my coverages, but like you my credit score is tops & no accidents, tickets or claims.

Sweat

“Don’t sweat the small stuff”, the Villages is a great place to live with so much to do. Yes, the price is high, yes something needs done, but life is short. Absorb the happiness of each day and share it with others. The insurance crooks will eventually get theirs.

Kia and Hyundai were getting stolen like crazy by teenagers because they made it so easy to steal.

What car you insure makes a big difference. Some also have higher safety ratings than others.

When car insurance in NYC went through the roof folks were registering and insuring their cars in nearby states like Pennsylvania where they had relatives living.

I can see that happening in Florida next.

Welcome to the Club !!

My 2023 Kia Soul = $457 - PER MONTH insurance premium !!
With Allstate ...same with State Farm.

No tickets, no accidents, etc, etc.
Been trying to seek other car insurance options, no luck.

Absolutely DISGUSTING !!

Decided to become Wisconsin residents again ( We are Snowbirds )
The difference being ;

Same coverage on my Kia Soul thru State Farm in Wisconsin = $158 per month....Not great, but much easier to swallow than $457 a month.

Florida insurance rates are driving people out at a rapid pace, absolutely insane premiums !

Excellent points. I just did a search for average insurance rates for Kia Soul & then Honda CRV & for a good driver in Florida it looks like the Kia would run a little over $500 more than the Honda. (I didn't use years or trim - just general averages). I also didn't ask about credit rating, but the two tables generated provided it - & forget about it. Bad credit drives the rates up more than a thousand. Interesting. I never considered insurance rates when looking for a new car - I guess I should.

Are you paying Wisconsin state income taxes? Some states check things like insurance to determine if taxes are owed.

Shop and be prepared to change carriers frequently. Cost of repairs, floods and uninsured motorists a key driver.

Don’t know if those pay per mile companies still exist

As a snow bird you can insure for the months you are here only. Ask your agent at State farm.
