How to Change a Light Bulb?

No, this is not a joke. When our house was built 3 years ago we had The Villages add overhead lights to the fans in the 3 bedrooms. One of the lights just burned out and when we went to change it, we found that there's no light bulb.

The building contract for the home says the lights are "LOW PROFILE L.E.D. FAN LIGHT KIT WITH ETCHED CASE OPAL GLASS MATTE WHITE."

Can we change the "bulb" (or whatever it is that makes light) ourselves? And if so, can you tell us how to do it. Or do we need to call in an electrician?

Thanks!

Hi there! Unfortunately you cannot change any bulb in this light kit, they are LED integrated so there is no light bulbs in the kit to change. If it is burnt out, we do carry replacement light kits in stock like this one. Give us a call, I'd be happy to help you :) - Casandra with Pike's Electric

You could look at Lowes's website for 'light kit' & see if any that come up would match or be suitable for your fan.

I helped a neighbor with a fan light kit that sounds similar to yours. You will need to do an internet search to see if a replacement is available, if so, the one I helped with had 2 screws to remove the LED panel and a simple plug in connector, 5 minutes to fix.

This is the light kit I believe you will need, that we stock :)

Got love light kit you can’t change bulbs in. Thanks for showing me kit I will never buy.

Wow, take a look at the reviews on that light kit. You might want to get a different one, maybe with led bulbs this time.

I would contact Home warranty and ask what the warranty length is on your unit. You may be able to get a new one free and just have to do the install yourself. You wrote your home is only three years old. I don't know if the warranty is consumer or commercial for you.

From the link given by Pike with a cost of $235

"LED Light Engines and Electrical Components
Five (5) years from the date of purchase when the ceiling or wall fan containing the LED light engine and electrical components is installed in a single family residence by the original consumer purchaser. For commercial purchasers, the warranty period is three (3) years from the date of purchase."

Amazon has a few LED replacement panels for less than $20. I don't know if it will fit your fixture, but why replace the entire fixture when you just need an LED panel??

Amazon.com

Another option is to just replace the entire light kit with one that uses light bulbs.

There are a lot of decent ceiling fans with lights available for less than $235.

Based on my personal experience, a call to The Villages Warranty department will result in you being asked your address and they will say your house is over a year old and out of warranty. If you are still on the line, and they haven't hung up, you can explain your light issue and they will tell you to contact the manufacturer directly. They have passed off everything possible directly to manufacturers where they can or to the subcontractors even before my year was up or reported before then. Save time and call the manufacturer directly.

So, when the light burns out it costs 235.00 for a new light (installation not included). In the old days we were so slow that we actually would unscrew a bulb and replace it with a $1.00 new bulb.

Unfortunately yes, the reviews it does have are poor as the light kit does not provide vast lighting in big rooms. We have had great success with it however, and we normally recommend bedrooms primarily for these light kits. We also recommend installing recessed cans in the living room for a flood of light throughout a larger space. However, the option of a light kit with interchangeable bulbs is great long-term and Kichler offers those as well :)

We actually sell it for $125.00 :) The online price is a showroom/retail price or IMAP price as they call it.
