The use of memes
"USERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DIRECT COMMENTS TOWARD ANOTHER USER. DIRECT THEM TO THE TOPIC. VIOLATION OF THESE RULES CAN LEAD TO ACCOUNT TERMINATION AND BAN."
I find it ironic posters are not allowed to direct comments at each other. Some posters have even earned time outs for this violation. However the use of memes like one little guy throwing water on another little guy (the cool off meme) or a jackass, blockhead, etc. is acceptable ? Loophole ? After one of these postings often the thread then goes astray. What is the value add to the subject at hand of those memes ? Well if there is a positive it makes me feel young again - about the second grade level. |
Those aren't memes, they are emojis. Since they are available for use, they are presumably acceptable. Otherwise, TOTV would remove them.

There is a lot of flexibility on this site when it comes to, Directing comments, Name calling, Political posts to name a few.

Yeah it'd really be helpful if you understood the meaning of the words you claim to have a problem with. I opened the thread thinking - oh someone wants to post a bunch of memes, neato.
But you're just talking about emojis (previously known as emoticons back in the AOL days). MEME | definition in the Cambridge English Dictionary |
My apologies to all - please change my phrasing from memes to emoticons. Did it change the message I was trying to convey ? LOOK SQUIRREL. I am the people your parents warned us about !

A meme (/miːm/ MEEM) is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme.
Upon further review IMHO it would appear some emoticons could cross over into the meme category. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? |
