The Hacienda lottery winners don't want one of the group to collect her winnings. Unfortunately the lawyers will now probably be the big winners.

Oh no, how could they cut her out? What a shame, with friends like that who needs enemies? The lawyers must be licking their chops !

From what I understand, there are usually between 6 and 14 who participate. Occasionally, some of the golfers don't show up, servers are off. Sometimes one will "front" for another; sometimes they won't. She was off and claims someone fronted her. Guess it's up to whomever supposedly paid her $1.00 to either admit or deny (or she's going to have to prove she gave her $1.00 to someone -- difficult thing to do).

It could be any of the following scenarios:

1. She's being cheated by the other winners.

2. She's trying to scam her way into the winnings.

3. She's innocent of scamming but really has no right to any of the winnings because no one paid her share.

4. Someone forgot to mention that $1.00 was for her and now is afraid to step up.

Regardless, no one should be too quick to condemn anyone in this. They could all be innocent. We just don't have the facts.

The first question to ask is, how many tickets were purchased, 9 or 10.

Correction, meant to say 7 or 8.

This is no surprise. It happens often. I have had the following intellectual discussion many times.

You live in Florida and the lotto is 25 million. You call your friend in Boise and she says, "buy me a ticket." So you do. But you also purchase some tickets for yourself. You now have possession of all of them and your friends ticket wins, but you have the ticket.

I know what most people "SAY" they would do, but I wonder how many would actually do the right thing.

I have never had any of these problems associated with winning a large lottery :(, but I have bought tickets for others on occasion. The way I handled it was to tell them their numbers ahead of time, mostly so they could have the excitement of seeing the drawing, but it would handle any potential confusion or hard feelings.

It will be interesting if we ever learn the facts of this current case. If they are not careful, half the money will be gone in litigation, along with half of them before they get anything.

The difference is only about $200,000 per person after taxes.

That's actually not the entire passage from the Bible. The "love of money" is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I can have money and not be involved with evil. Someday I would love to find out if that's true. Until then I feel rich by being blessed to live in TV.

Agree with Red.....I'd go with selection 2 and 3 and here's why. For a long time, were talking 5 plus years now, inside staff would put "their own" 1.00 in an envelope for the wed and sat drawing and write their name on the envelope. At one time 12 - 15 people were in the drawings. This time only 7 had put their dollar in and the others for what ever reason had not put their name along with a dollar in the envelope.

For those that say "Oh lets just include her", what about the others who had followed the protocol but missed this particular drawing. One of the winners acknowledged missing several drawings because of travels and happened to luckily be in this one.

As I said it's a little of #2 and #3 from Red's post. And no I'm not affiliated with one of the lucky 7.....

For goodness sakes! You seven people need to grow up! $200,000 is not worth throwing away friendships. the lawyers will eat you up...and you deserve it.

Perhaps there was not a true "friendship" relationship. Just a business transaction for purchase of the tickets. As stated before, this could open up pandora's box for some of the others who were not "in" on that particular day. I don't know all of the mechanics of the issue but there apparently was not an extra ticket purchased in absentia for this person.

Do all seven need to grow up or is it possible that not all agreed with their decision to exclude number eight? It's possible that this is a case of the majority rules and the real winners were in the minority.

Where I used to work, one woman handled the collection of the money and purchasing the tickets. After the purchase she would make a photocopy of all the tickets for each participant. That way each of us had our own proof that we could toss in the garbage after we lost! :cry:
