Package thief turned out to be an Amazon contractor

My husband and I were each expecting a package from Amazon yesterday, his a small item and mine much larger. We each got a "delivered" e-mail with a photo showing a package at our front door. I thought mine seemed awfully small. When we got home there was only one package, his small one. We looked at the photos again and my husband said "they're both the same box!" We reviewed our doorbell camera footage and saw the delivery guy walk up holding the small box, look around behind him, drop the package at the door, and take a picture. Then a minute later he came back empty-handed, turned the box on its side, and took a second picture, which is the one I got. He had a big grin on his face the second time like he couldn't believe how clever he was to figure out such a great scam. He was driving a Hertz truck, which is why we suspect contractor rather than Amazon employee.

Amazon gave us our money back and didn't seem all that surprised. I just hate to think about how many of our neighbors he may have victimized and how many could be suspecting their neighbors of stealing their packages.

Wonder what Amazon did with driver. They will know who he is.

. They won't have a clue and simple don't care. They wouldn't ever look at your videos. The "CS" reps just take your word for it and give you a refund (up to a point). Now if that was a $300 item the outcome will be very different.

However, if the same thing happens again, even though it is NOT your fault it is likely they will refund you and close your account no matter what proof you have. There are hundreds of examples of this happening on various forums (especially Reddit). Reddit - Amazon Prime

Even if only HALF of what is posted there is the truth you'll be concerned on what is happening with Amazon recently. Their "bots" are going nuts.

Wow! That's a good reason to consider delivery to one of their pick-up locations.

Amazing how Amazon became the worlds biggest retailer, without having a clue, or care what is going on!

Long ago they cut off a thief's hand for stealing. No- I don't advocate that punishment- but it does show that theft used to be considered a big deal. Not any more. Theft is now a relatively safe crime. Thieves can appear in court dozens of times without serious consequence. Wonder if that is why some people take the law into their own hands and shoot people attempting to steal from them. One final thought- If you are a thief you are a low-life!

We have had cameras at our homes in TV since 2010, and at northern homes.

In TV keep track of lawn guys, deliveries, and the guys trying to sell you a roof. After a storm any damage, and see what walks in the yard.

Up north, lawn guys, deliveries, how much snow, did we get plowed, and who is checking on the houses. What walks through the yard and We can also have a conversation through the cameras, so our grands always say hi, and show us the mail, and the big snowman in the front yard.

Cameras are first, home Watch second in providing security in our homes.

As far as I know, cutting off a hand was never a legal punishment in this country. But, it was and it still may be allowed in Saudi Arabia. When I lived there in the late 1970's, they would behead murderers in a public square in downtown Riyadh. It was a huge spectator event every Friday at noon.

The largest doesn't make them good. Only large. Xfinity is the largest cable/internet provider in the country. What does that prove?

I can only hope you never have a problem with them. Like Xfinity they are great UNTIL you have a problem. Not going to post my story but hopefully you don't need their help for a missing package (over $300) or getting a credit when double billed for keeping something they told you to dispose of. Doing a CC chargeback gets your account closed.

Read some of the Reddit stories and like I said if only 1/2 of them are true they are getting very bad.

Yea, for delivery it is good but NEVER put a return in one of those boxes although it is easy for them to say something was delivered when the driver never put it in the box. AT least with home delivery they take a picture of every package they drop off. Fedex left a package for me at the wrong house by 2 doors last week but they also take a photo so I was able to find out who got it. Fortunately they didn't wear a 12 WIDE Brooks Adrenaline. :D

I’ve had the same problem but because our driver didn’t photograph anything, I just turned around and reordered the merchandise. What can you do?
