Need LG Refrigerator repair

Any recommendations for someone to troubleshoot an LG that does not cool anymore, both refrigerator and freezer. Compressor seems to hum. Thank you. Northern villages area.

I would suggest shopping for a new refrigerator. LG compressors are notorious to fail and are very expensive to replace. There was a class action lawsuit some time ago. If yours is not under warranty, you can expect to pay around $1000 or more to replace it.
Ours went after about only 3 years of use.

Our LG same problem, called for service, bluntly told, not worth paying a service call. Repair and call would be at least $850.

Best Buy had a sale, $1200 for whirlpool with free removal and delivery. $300 in gift cards. So new fridge and $300 used to buy a new iPad.

Already checked with TV Warranty Dept? Call to GE told us 1 year was expired. Call to Villages Warranty told us special volume purchases give us 18 months- gave us special direct GE/Villages phone number. Yup fixed Free. 3 months later GE mailed us a notice that we had 3 years coverage. It pays to make more than one phone call.

This might help on next purchase so you don’t get the same thing.

I highly recommend this person. Robert "Bob", and his son.

We had a problem with a LG 4 door about a month or so ago. It was no longer cooling. One of the local repairmen told us to call LG as soon as found out it was an LG. I call LG 800-243-0000 and asked for customer service. They helped us right away, we had to take a couple pictures of the serial number and model. This was on a Friday and we received a call from a LG repairman and on Monday we had a new compressor. It was a line out of the compressor that was leaking. There was no cost to us. I can't tell you how nice it was to work with LG.

Call LG! Had the same issue. Repaired quickly by LG at no charge.

Compressor

From what you have said, your compressor still works. The problem then would be refrigerant. A leak would need to be located, repaired, then vacuumed and refilled. This is costly. Then you have the issue of possible cavitation damage to the compressor even though the motor is energized and working. Oil seems to migrate out of these.

Call Lowe’s for a new one.

I highly recommend Jeff Cooper of Affordable Appliance Repair. His number is 850-508-2652. Good luck!

I don't know if your LG fridge is covered but I had this occur 1 yrs ago with a fridge. It appears that LG tried to make good by extending part warranties out to 10yrs. I had my compressor replaced at zero dollars. Do your research on the web.

Didn't you need to pay for the labor? If so, how much was that?

Most likely

Replace the defrost time. Cheap part(less than $20) and might fix the problem. Good luck.

Back in Virginia, we bought a new LG refrigerator and the ice maker went out while still under warranty. Service tech could not get the repair part so we had to get one of those ice makers that sit on the counter. Several years later we were having some remodeling done and the contractor was able to get a complete ice maker and replaced the whole unit. Our LG TV went out and the service tech was able to get it going again but a year later - out again. These incidents were 10-15 years ago. For those who are old enough to remember, LG actually stands for Lucky / Goldstar - two of the most notoriously cheap and unreliable brands to come out of Korea. They seem to have gotten their act together these days though, and are on the leading edge but I still avoid them having been burned twice before.

Go on LG website and put in your zip code. They will show you the certified trained LG repair services in the area.
