Shell Station on 466A

Went to the Shell Station on 466A earlier this am to fill the gas tank in the golf cart only to find they have no gas as the tanks are empty. The store was open but the clerk did not know when there might be gas avail.

Is this the same station that was rumored to be closed down last month?

Pookirgirl 01-02-2011 12:38 PM

Hubby just came back (12:36) Said only one pump was working. Too bad the Villages can't control theses gas stations. Their prices are insane there! $3.11 a gallon? They are killing those of us who live in this area. I'm gonna buy a 5 gallon tank and fill it elsewhere!

dgammon6 01-02-2011 12:39 PM

I filled my cart up there about 11:00 this morning, Sunday, no problem.

Shell on 466 and 42 are $3.09/gallon . . . so filling a 5 gallon tank some where else will save you a dime and cost you about ten times that amount to drive there . . . not to mention, who wants to drive around with a tank of gasoline in the car!

Yep, same place. Only it wasn't a rumor - they really WERE closed down then, but only for a few days.

At this rate, the new owner won't do any better than the last two (or was it three)?

It was a Chevron station for awhile before switching to Shell.

Only good thing about that station is it is close to the house for filling up the cart.

Yep, I was there about 8:30 this morning and every pump had a sign on it and the clerk said they had no gasoline. Maybe they did get a delivery after I was there.

Gongoozler,

I feel pretty secure having gas in the tank of my car. What type of car do you have?:)

chuckster 01-02-2011 03:09 PM

imho, Sounded like he was referring to a portable 5 gal. gas can, not the tank built into the car.

batman911 01-02-2011 03:12 PM

I got that Chuckster. Just thought it odd that someone would be concerned about driving with a gas can in the car when you always have gas in the gas tank. My lame attempt at humor.

I was in that station awhile ago having coffee & the former owner was going over the business records for the previous day or week. He complained to someone that they lose $.01 on every gallon of gas that they sell because of some kind of extra tax that they have to pay. If true, they must depend on the store sale for their profit. Tough business. Now, they have U-Haul trucks, etc, all over the place.

Not doubting what you heard - - - but for what they get at that particular station for a gallon of fuel, the other stations selling it for a lot less must be losing their shirts!!! I know it's a low-margin business.......but it doesn't seem like anybody could make much of a go of it if they're losing money by selling something. I'd think it'd be tough to make it up on the other things they sell. But what do I know - never have owned a gas station/convenience store!! :)
