Geckos in Lanais
 

More than a year ago on another thread, the question was asked "how do we keep the geckos out of our lanais?" The question was never answered and I'm courious if anyone has any suggestions other than putting a sign on the lanai door stating... "NO GECKOS PERMITTED BEYOND THIS POINT!"
{Yes I do believe that there is some :pepper2: out there that would say that! LoL}

We get about one gecko a year on our lanai - not a major problem.

Your sign idea might work tho.

I don't know that keeping the little beasties out is possible. The ones in my lanai have a routine...in the morning they head in one particular direction, in the late afternoon, they head in the opposite direction. Who knows, maybe they get together to have a meeting or play golf... ;)

We have an spa with steps surrounding it and hubby has seen anoles squeezing in between the split in the concrete on the stairs. I'm sure they're living under the spa. The can get through the smallest space, it's amazing.

I suggest you change your sign to "No green anoles permitted beyond this point". I understand they are very sensitive to being called chameleons - they do change color, but from what I have read, they are anoles, not chameleons.

We were able to stop them from getting into the lanai by installing tile on the lanai floor. We love it as it looks so much cleaner than the cement and we also have vinyl windows and no vermin. (yuk).

I posted a similar question on here a few months ago and didn't get many serious responses just as you aren't getting here neither. So guess that must mean noone has the answer. We got a screen-door for the slider door and tried to seal up whatever entry sites we thought were possible with a foam sealer. We've seen one anole (gecko) in the lanai even after that. I just don't want them to get in the house though we'll be told they live on bugs. I think they're rather annoying more than anything....HATE anything that slithers or streaks out from under something when least expected!!!

I've been told to catch them you spray them with hair spray. Pick them up and carry them outside. A few minutes later they scamper away in more of a straight line. I've seen it done - it works. It also keeps the hair out of their eyes. ... and you thought you couldn't get a serious answer.

Try bubble wrap
 

We used small bubble wrap tucked tightly under the vinyl siding and also tried steel wool. The steel wool rusted but worked. We also ran it underneath for a short distance outside adjacent to the lanai. That's where the critters were coming in.

Thanks! You've give me the solution. If I wind up getting any on my lanai, I'll just tell them they're at the wrong house and give them directions to your place! :clap2:

Why get rid of them?

I've heard that they are great when sauteed with a good white wine!
