Digital Resident ID's

While at the pool on Sunday with my family the attendant came around to check ID's. I have mine digitally in my wallet app on my cell phone. The attendant scanned the ID from my digital app and went on her way. On Monday, another attendant came around to check ID's and told me I couldn't use the app for my ID.

I am usually not a rule breaker, but I don't like to bring my wallet (where my ID is located) to the pool. Most everyone has a cell phone these days. Airports have no issue when people put there boarding pass on their cell phone. It is time to get out of the 1980's.

Sorry. Haven't heard of the ID being on an 'App'. Which App do you mean? I have a photo of my ID on my phone- which they won't accept- but other than a photo I don't know of another way to present the ID with a phone.

This is the second time I've heard of a Villages-blessed digital form of the Villages ID. If these stories are correct then it is a very new capability just now being rolled out in a new and improved app. It's about time for this, I believe it was first mentioned by the District back in 2020.

I haven't seen it, have only heard stories about it, and can't find any mention of it in my Villages app but it just might be true.

I do just fine in 2024 going to the pool while leaving my phone at home and bringing my ID. Residents only have one Physical ID, but a digital version could be used by multiple people. Keep the pools secure and require a physical ID. If you must bring your phone with you, keep your physical ID in a sleeve on the back of your phone. And airlines are willing to accept a digital boarding pass because the traveler already was required to show a physical ID to a TSA agent when they went through security.

Same here, but nothing in the IT world is easy when dealing with legacy systems and Software.

If your photo popped up on their device when scanning the barcode seems that should be enough.

But very seldom do I see anyone looking at the photo and person before scanning the barcode.

I have a picture of my id also - they are not valid. You could take a picture, give to your sister and now two people are using the amenities. You could rent your house, turn in your ID and still show your pic.

That might be true if all they did was look for a green card, but that's not all they do. When they scan the card they should get feedback that shows your picture and ID status (valid, expired, surrendered, etc). If this information are being returned then it shouldn't matter if they scan the card, a picture of the card, or a Villages-issued digital card.

You and your sister look that much alike?

The app that I have is nothing more than a digital wallet called Folio. I have my Medicare card, BJ’s card and anything else that has a picture including my Villages ID. I am not saying to change the physical ID just the pool area where you don’t usually keep a wallet in your back pocket for a guy.

Photos can be altered, and copies flood the system and amenities. They used to be able to enter your number but in October 2022 they stopped accepting that (I heard a rumor there was a safety issue but it is a rumor and unsubstantiated). I know they are working on going digital but there are challenges due to other legacy systems here. I have a pocket for my ID in the back of my phone.

I show the attendant my drivers lic and village ID on my phone. They take it or whatever. This is the digital age and my picture is there on my ID anyway.

Just bring your ID. Making a big deal about nothing

Your picture does pop up on the scanner's screen.
Picture sent to scanner from T V database, and would be the same picture that is printed on the original plastic ID card.
A photograph of your ID, in your phone, if altered, would not match.

Another red flag would be scanning the same ID in 2 places at similar times. Especially if traveling between those spots in that time frame is impossible.

One thing for sure here is that their IT department is terrible. Stuck in the past and using obsolete technology. Yet spending buckets of money on gate systems instead of making things better for residents.

You don't have to bring the whole wallet. Just the card. Thems the rules like it or not.
