Nest thermostat alternative?
For years I used a Nest thermostat and was happy with its intuitive user interface. I HATE those ones with pre-set M-F 8-5 defaults because they are hard to manipulate and control. I never worked M-F 8-5 and I don't work now, so they were always a huge PITA.
Well, I wanted to upgrade to a thermostat that I could control from anywhere in the world with temperature and humidity readings and settings. Turns out, Google is discontinuing the Nest line. Sooo, what is a good, solid, easy to use, internet accessible and settable alternative? |
Our house came with an Ecobee. It will do pretty much anything you want it to.

+1 for Ecobee, very intuitive to use with the latest updates.

I have had an ecobee for 5 years. I have never had a problem with the hardware or thermostat function. In my opinion, the ecobee ipad app is not well done and not so intuitive. But I seldom use the app.

I’m good using a temp stick to monitor our home’s temperature and humidity remotely (it doesn’t control the HVAC settings). I keep it in our northern home during the winter while in the Villages to be sure our pipes won’t freeze, and put it in our Villages home during the summer to insure our A/C is functioning and mold won’t attack out home. It sends me texts when the temperature and humidity get outside of ranges I set. If I have an issue in the Villages I call Chuck Ferrell and up north I call my neighbor and the oil burner service guy. Easy peasy, with one simple device.

I have the Honeywell RTH9585WF and I'm very satisfied with it. Easy to work from home and while away. It shows temperature and humidity outside the home as well as inside. Such a fantastic tool.

I’ve had ecobee in my last 3 houses. Last house they put a smart Honeywell in it and it was taken out for multiple ecobee’s. There is so much you can do with an ecobee, how you control it, and I get a report each month telling me how I did versus others in the area, no names just a generic report.

I have two Ecobee thermostats; one at my house and the other in my condo; they are fantastic. As soon as guests depart our condo, I remote login and adjust the temperature. It sure beats driving 30 miles. |

Here’s another recommendation for Honeywell. I installed and use the Home Honeywell THX321WFS2001W T10 Pro Smart Thermostat. It is WiFi accessible and I successfully monitor and adjust settings from an app on my phone. It works great. I bought it on Amazon. If you go with a Honeywell, be sure to get either a T9 or T10 version. (T10 has humidity control, if you want to use that.)
