When the radius of a circular arc is sufficiently large, the arc becomes indistiguishable from a straight line.

That is why geometry was so successful in early historic times and even today for many situations. The lines were all "straight enough" even when drawn on the earth's surface.

I think I see my house in the third square from the right and two down. It's the one with the grey roof.

Depends how you look at the picture. Amazing! Visual artist like to lead the eye.

Well that's because the earth is flat, so all those lines would be straight. This is known fact, my position is unassailable.
