I don't have a Doctor to recommend but, my suggestion would be to consider every other viable option before choosing surgery.
Look very closely and honestly at the shoes you are wearing - which are big triggers for problems with feet, knees, hips and back. (Strange how the Docs rarely mention that. Well, not really, it's because they make A LOT of money off of all the problems bad shoes cause.)
Check your feet for uniformity. My Mother thought she needed a hip replacement from ongoing discomfort but the Orthopedic Doc pointed-out how she had one foot still with an arch and with the other foot the arch had fallen. So, she had a slightly rocking-type gait and it caused hip irritation. So, her actual problem was with a foot, not a hip. She got an insert for the shoe with the fallen arch.
Also, consider whether certain supplements might help if the issue is pain. Like glucosamine with chondroitin.
