Any suggestions for companies that offer home insurance

We use AAA for getting insurance quotes, currently with Progressive, you can also contact The Villages Insurance whom we used in the past. If you get referred to a lesser known or new to Florida insurance company have your financial guy (or possibly bank) check out the company with AM Best rating company.

I'll check with A.M.Best for insurance ratings. Thanks for sending me those tips.

Just signed with Spinnaker Ins. Co for less than half of my old policy. (Ok, not quite Apples to Apples, I did drop sink hole).

Have a recent claim? No problem. Couldn't believe it.

Call Richard at 352-444-7159 he's the agent (his company is Guardian at 352-444-7160).

Do a lot of research on the web and then go with least expensive, because they will all give you a good rate for first year only - then POW.

Ratings are good, but need to know if these companies do business in Florida.

Now here's a good reason most people stay with their home insurance Co. for years, and a good reason at that.

Last year we lucked out with only Hurricane Idalia doing any significant damage to Florida (estimated caused $3.5 billion in damages). Opposed to Ian which the year before estimated $113 billion. They still haven’t repaired a few hundred homes in Florida due to Ian and those families are still in temporary shelter.

It’s all about the hurricanes people! If Florida gets few/mild hurricanes this year, Insurance companies might take a chance and some of them lowball to get new customers, like Spinnaker is doing. I don’t mind changing my insurance company every year. Bring it on. The days of being a loyal customer and having your home insurance agent being a friend are over.

And it doesn't matter whether a hurricane hits The Villages or not. If it hits anywhere Florida the rates go up everywhere in FL. The same companies in TV, are selling in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, etc. They have to. The hurricane may miss you, but it won't miss your insurance company.

And woe to you if you actually need it. Villager friend of mine just got back into his house after 18 months. This was not hurricane related. His A/C caught fire and destroyed part of his roof/attic. It took them six months to actually get a property claim estimate. So, if you actually need to file a major claim, get in line!

Progressive is not renewing on our 13 year old home. Even if we replaced the roof. State Farm, AAA not writing policies. Sad state of affairs.

I searched on line for Florida home insurance. You’ll get a punch of phone calls. I worked with the first two agents who called and blocked the others. They will look for the best rate they can find but not at any of the big name companies. I did call a few big name companies and their quotes were way more than what I settled on from one of the agents. The big names have to charge more so they can put their name on high rise buildings.

It doesn't seem to make much difference IMHO. We were with Hartford, now with Progressive, have gone to villages broker and to others. Many recommend "Kin", which I believe might be a broker, not a company, but not sure. Most seem to offer an enticing premium to change, then double or MORE the premium on the next billing. Same reported by friends who live in Illinois, and in Arkansas. Brother in law put on brand new roof when "old" roof was 100% in regard to shingle condition, granules, etc. Result was a $156.00 reduction is their next premium, followed by a $487 INCREASE in the following premium period ! I don't know if one can stay ahead of this "game".... insurance and roofers and "inspections" ? Seem a lot of people are beginning to question the old thinking that home ownership is by far the most financially prudent choice: electrical, plumbing, property taxes, lawn upkeep, insurance, etc. but would definitely be impacted by how much the owner is able to do for self, but can't do anything about taxes and insurance raises, and "special" assessments, fees such as amenity or in some places HOA, etc.

It sure is. I noticed on another on line forum it's all blamed on the governor by a majority of those posting. While I am sure there is plenty of "blame to go around" as the old saying goes, seems to pin it on one governor, or one president, or even one political party reveals very shallow analytical skills; lots of variables involved like in most situations. I do believe there was a time when starting an insurance company was a risk; some profitable years, some years of loss, but over all, profitable or no one would have started an insurance company, just have to accept it was an "up and down" business. Much like the pharmaceutical manufacturers, up and down, sometimes a HUGE hit, like a polio virus drug, or an effective drug for diabetes or heart problems. But, when attracting stockholders, it's a different story. Investors are not looking for "up and down" investments in an insurance company or a pharma manufacturing company. "Risky" businesses, "risky" by their very nature, have to be turned into dependable profits and low volatility... hard to achieve if weather is a deciding factor, or, if your business depends on discovering more and more "diseases" !
