Clubs in the Villages
 

Greetings,
I’m a new homeowner and I find it difficult to find a listing of clubs within the villages. Granted, it is probably user error but any help would be appreciated.

Recreation news in Thursdays paper or pick up a copy at any regional recreation center.

There is a weekly list of clubs in a special section of the Daily Sun on Thursday.......but ....BUT..........Oh how I wish that there was also a clear description on just what the club is about, what people do in the club and if there are any restrictions because they are large or you need to be a certain level of skill ..(such as art or pottery). Also I wish that it listed two or three names and telephone numbers for more information, and I wish that some had more than a TITLE. I think the name of a club I enjoy called; I CAN DO IT CRAFTS........isn't really very clear as to what folks do. Also I like to know if there are any charges for supplies or for anything. (I don't think you are supposed to charge for stuff in the clubs, but some instructors make a bit of money off of some of them....I don't know why that bothers me, but it does.

And another thing would be so helpful...I wish that they would tell WHERE it is, such as in the Northern section, the newer Southern section, or fairly close to Lake Sumter Landing, etc. We are getting so large that we sometimes feel like we are making a journey to go to a club that interests us.

Thank you so much for posing this question. I am forever looking over the listings of clubs and have continually wondered what exactly was their focus, because their titles' are often quite vague or misleading. We have lived here almost two decades and I am still confused.

For specific upcoming events, download the free Villages app. Go to "calendar" on the home page. Do a search for any type of activity you want. It will show you the date and time and the POC for the event.

Look at the top of this page. Click on Entertainment and drag down to Clubs. You can scroll them all or search. Some clubs have more information if you click on them. You can take a screen shot of the page and print it out, but the info is often wrong.

The rec center news doesnt list all of the clubs. The whole list is on the CDD website

I've been reading your posts for years and enjoying them. We finally made it here 3 years ago, and I agree with all of your points.
Also, many of the Clubs that I've called or emailed (many) are discontinued addresses or disconnected numbers. Recently a yesterday.

You are correct that there is not an easy way to search clubs here in the villages. You can do a search by name, but quite often the name has nothing to do with what the club does. It would be great if somebody would address this problem and categorize the clubs for search purposes and provide more information on each club like contact information, skill required if any, etc.

Just call the phone number listed and ask questions as to what the club features.

When was the last time the list of clubs was updated
 

The paper might be more accurate, but the list has hundreds of clubs that no longer exist. Is it on purpose as a selling tool?
There are also clubs that don’t meet at rec centers. Some have Facebook pages. Some are word of mouth. Some that are listed are full, some are very cliquish and have to accept you but will ignore you, some are welcoming.
You might find your tribe, you might not, is not easy for everyone. But there is so much to do you will find something. Patience and perseverance. What do you want to do? People on this page are a great source of information.

You can get clarification on your selling tool question……by calling the recreation department.

I have this list also, but it would be really helpful if there was descriptions of these clubs and what their interest is. Is there a list out there that describes each group?
