Diabetic Testing
 

We are currently using a Libre 3 monitoring device to check blood sugar levels. Comparing Libre results with those from a glucometer it shows considerable difference even when the sensor has been changed. Does anyone also have this problem concerning the accuracy of the Libre?

If I were in this situation, I would first call my doctor and ask for their educated opinion for the differences in readings. Then I would contact the manufacturer of EACH device to ask why the difference in readings. My final contact would be the FDA (?) that approved the devices to see if they have any insight as to the differences.

I have no idea if there are "calibration fluids" that can be used to check the accuracy of the sensors, but that might be the final check.

Difference between the two is a CGM takes the reading from interstitial fluid while a finger stick test uses a blood sample. If the alarm goes of for low blood sugar . Libre advises you to do a finger stick prior to an intervention. My alarm often goes off showing a 69. My finger stick shows above 80. Discuss with your endocrinologist. Other than the convenience of not doing a finger stick I'm not sure this new gadget is all that helpful . I have experienced difficulty keeping the device on my arm with it coming loose in the shower and in our pool. Did find an an adhesive patch that goes over the Libre that has helped. It even has an opening for the "eye" on the sensor. Good luck. I'm 50 years a diabetic. It's been a challenge..
