Business startup question

Hello, first time poster and hopefully soon to be resident...

I’m retiring in May and visiting TV next month to stay with friends and look at homes. I’m considering operating a small service business from my home in TV, does anyone know if there are regulations against this?

My wife and I have heard wonderful things about your community, can’t wait to come down to see what you’re all about. I know one thing; my thermometer shows 6 degrees right now so it’s gotta be better at TV...

Thanks

Ron - I believe you'll find the covenants/deed restrictions to be pretty explicit.......no businesses allowed. I'd think there's a fine line somewhere depending on the type of business. If you're planning on doing something that's going to generate traffic - people coming and going - at your house, that'll be a problem. Otherwise, it might not be an issue. Using your home address as your business address presents an issue as well.

And welcome to TOTV!!! :)

Well, I went to our Village ladies' social club meeting last night - the program was Vendor night - mostly women in our Village who have various craft, home-party businesses (think Avon, Tupperware, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc) that I am sure they run out of their homes - as far as I know it is not a problem with anyone.

Maybe you need to rent a PO Box at one of the post offices on the perimeter if you get a lot of mail, but would think that as long as you don't have a stream of people regularly coming to your house, who would care?

The deed restrictions, which everyone aknowledges at closing, spells this out fairly clearly.

Thanks everyone. No traffic or customers would come to my home, strictly service at other locations. I'll check into the dead restrictions.

Thanks again for your help...

Ron -

Here's where you can find the deed restrictions:

http://districtgov.org/departments/c.../download.aspx

The restrictions are listed by county, district, and unit (which is a subset of a Village) - the villa sections are separate as well. Also know that there ARE some differences in the restrictions - lawn ornaments specs, I believe, differ depending on if you're in one of the newer parts of TV versus the areas that were built several years ago.

Regardless, this should give you some flavor of what is covered in the deed restrictions.

Hope that helps!

Lots and lots of people have businesses from their homes in TV. Of course it depends on the business, as others have said no streams of people in and out. Heck, just look in the paper and you'll see as part of the ads for all sorts of things..Villages resident....
