Google Nest Thermostat Help

I am watching a house with a Nest thermostat. The owner, out of state is seeing “thermostat offline” a lot on his app. When I go to check it, the unit isn’t running. As soon as it senses my presence, the unit turns on. The set point is 79 and the interior temp is 85. It will run fine for awhile and then go offline. Thats what he is seeing on his app. I'm thinking there is a setting that is allowing this to happen? Maybe the eco feature. Munns did the installation and were here today and were no help as the technician didn’t know what was doing. He said that when the house is empty, it goes into eco mode and quits running until it is woken up? I couldn’t find a way to disable eco mode. The owner can’t do it on his app either. It seems to come and go regularly. Any help woke appreciated. Thanks

Check to see status of eco+ . We have our disabled permanently.

Reason is we don’t walk past thermostat enough to wake the system.

You can control and change status by app or the thermostat itself.

As far as off line, is the WiFi on vacation mode? If so service may be spotty on things like cameras, and thermostat. Depending company.

We use old school thermostat with humidistat temp set to 80° and humidistat set of 50% if humidity is lower than 50% even though home may be 85°+ system won't run

Pretty sure a home watch person isn’t going to replace a nest thermostat

It’s probably the “Home/Away Assist”.

I have Nest thermostats in my home in DE. It sounds like he has the “home/away assist” feature enabled. It sets the AWAY condition when his cell phone is more than a few hundred yards from the house.

He could disable this temporarily by going to the thermostat in his app, tapping on the gear icon at the top, and then on the top line for Home/Away Assist. That should return the thermostat to sensing your presence in the house. He can then easily re-enable it when he returns home.

It might be something else… he could also set the thermostat to run the fan for a few hours each day. It just might not be getting enough power from the furnace and shutting off to conserve… running the fan will allow the thermostat to charge.

I hope this helps!
