Did the City of Wildwood Millage rate go up?

Using their Tax estimator for awhile when looking at homes to purchase and I swear it always has been 13.21.

All of sudden 14.21

How often does the millage rate change?

Trying to understand Florida Taxes

The millage rate can go up or down once a year. In Sumter we have seen the millage rate go down as well. It just depends on the budget for the year. Best to go to their web site and research the rate. I believe it did go up last year but since I don't live in Wildwood, I don't follow their taxes.

Not sure what you're looking at, but the Wildwood millage rate last year was 2.8287, the previous year it was 3.0000

My latest bill has the following:

Sumter County 5.19
School Board 4.987
Wildwood 2.8287
SWFWMD 0.2043
TOTAL 13.21

Apparently, Wildwood made a mistake on their millage rate.
The city says the actual rolled-back rate is 2.8051, a difference of 0.0236.

I don't recall getting a rebate.

According to articles at the time, the city petitioned the State to allow them to change the rate but were denied. The city met on 11/6/23 to reaffirm the 2.8287 rate as a tax increase.

Can anyone explain this??

It looks like they made a math error and then were not allowed to correct it? Instead, they were required to keep the higher rate?

I am looking at buying in Sumter county. How do you determine if you live in a city? Can it be looked up by address (without going to courthouse)? Thanks

You can call the
Sumter County Appraiser

Phone: 352-569-6800

Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Mon-Fri)

Or check this website.

Just a moment...

If you are looking for new in the Villages, I think everything is in Wildwood. You can buy preowned outside of Wildwood.

I pay about $700 more a year for the privilege of living in Wildwood.

Thanks. I looked up a few new homes of same model..

New $335,000 3 bedroom in Moultrie Creek. (Sumter) City of Wildwood
$4760 in property taxes. $947 for WIldwood. 14.21 Millage

Exact same house in Dabney $314,500 (Lake) City of Leesberg
$5000 in property taxes with 15.8956 Millage

I was thinking of buying in Dabney since I figured the property tax increases on a cheaper home would save me money through the years. Apparently not. The high tax rate in Dabney ends that theory.

With all the hundreds ( if not thousands ) of new homes in Sumter county , the tax rate for all of us should go DOWN !!!!!! How much money do they need to pay the bills ??????????

Jim 9922 06-14-2024 07:29 PM

"How much do they need?" you ask. They need lots and lots of money. Spending is just beginning with the construction of a multi-story parking garage (so you can conveniently shop in the next-door resale shop), then there will be a glorious park, then a few new shops replacing existing buildings, making it a more magnificent "downtown" bisected by a major 4 lane highway and hemmed in by a very active railroad on one side and existing residential areas on the other. And, they have yet to mention a probable new city hall to administer all the growth, which will require another parking structure, and maybe a beautiful new library, etc., etc. Check out some recent history; Lady Lake and Fruitland Park spent lavishly once The Villages tax dollars started rolling in.
