Anyone know of a recycling repository
 

Anyone know of a recycle repository in the Villages that takes glass jars, bottles, etc. (clear glass that is, not pottery) ?

not sure of your question but I thought recyclables were put in regular trash and they sort them out at the dump station?

Oh true, we can put anything in the trash anymore. My understanding was now NOTHING is sorted out of any kind, just all put into a big incinerator of some type, and burned; batteries, plastics, food, paper, etc. and "supposedly" a process makes sure none of those harmful fumes and particles reach the air ("scrubbers" they are called). That's why I was asking. Was just looking when I'm out and about to see if there are still bins for glass. Some bins still exist (Publix for instance) but ones for glass seem to have "disappeared" ? The urgency and passion for earth friendly practices like sorting and recycling items seems to have passed suddenly when there was not longer a huge profit to it ? ? ?

I believe Publix has separate trash boxes outside their entrance for recycles: glass, plastics, paper etc.

If you live in Lake County, there is one on Jacson St. Off of Rolling Acres Rd. They are open on Tues and Sat.

Plastic, foam and paper. Not glass.

They all go in the same truck and are demolished. You really think they sort them? They just burn it all.

Sand is so cheap, it is less expensive to make glass new, than recycle glass.
Plastic can not be economically recycled yet, much of it is actually “Banked” until it makes sense economically.

The best solution for recyclable materials is ‘waste to energy’ - which is what is happening in the Villages since 2020.
The trash is burned at a plant built to covert to energy and the energy is transferred to the Duke energy grid

They DO, but none of them appear to be for GLASS !

Right ! Never got an answer to what I mistakenly thought was a simple question. wanted to know if anyone has seen a location of a receptacle for GLASS. just clear jars, drinking glasses, broken glass from windows, picture frames, etc. But... seems those have all gone away, along with most other used materials collecting. Anyone remember when if you did NOT carefully clean and save used used items, you were considered a lesser person, uncaring about others and the future generations ? Guess that went out of style, perhaps when "caring" did not produce profits, LOL, maybe it wasn't as much concerned for those grand children and great grand children as we were told ? Anyway, appreciate the interesting replies, I'll just haul the glass to the curb for next pick up.

That's really interesting, I learn something often on this site. I did have a "hunch" that the urgency of recycling was somehow tied to profit for "someone somewhere".... I always felt somewhat guilty washing, cleaning, removing labels, etc. about the natural resources I WAS WASTING doing all we were told to do to get items ready for recycling pick up day !

Sumter County recycling center. I have a recycling trash can which I fill and when it's full 3-4 times, I take it to the sumter county recycling center. . it's free, and it will take almost anything, including furniture, metal, appliances, etc.
