Never had any issues with the SunKool services.

We have Sunshine Air Conditioning so can't help you with Sunkool but I had a problem with my AC last week. I'm in Hawkins too with a 2 1/2 year old Carrier system and it would only cool the house to 81 degrees. My problem was the blower motor in the air handling unit was going bad and luckily it was under warranty so everything was covered.

I have the same unit same age and I had a contractor come out to look at it because it stopped blowing cool air just room temp air and my house went up to 85. He said it was over $1300 to replace a part called a TXV and warranty only covered parts not labor which is most of the bill estimate. Really sounds too much for a unit that new and he made it sound like Carriers weren't that good.

I'm looking to pay a lot cheaper and I see many like Munns, Sunkool, and Chuck Farrell. Probably should get other estimates but don't want to pay another service call I'm already out $75.

Here is a Forbes article about the TXV and what it should cost to replace it. It looks like the cost ought to be around $700.

Of course, when the house is hot and you just want it fixed a repair guy can charge you pretty much anything they want.

It's possible the diagnosis was wrong and the problem isn't the TXV.

Munns *might* be able to give you a ballpark on the replacement cost over the phone. In any case, on the chance SunKool might be charging "you're hot and we have the part you need" prices, $75 would be a small amount to pay to save $600.

Thanks for the reply. I had done some research which shows you were correct. So I just had my TXV valve replaced by Sunkool the Friday after the storm and they were awesome, came out and did the repairs and everything is back to normal. I was still under warranty for parts and labor and as long as I had purchased their yearly inspection club my OOP was only $99 dollars for the service call and $22.00 for a filter. Since they're contracted for the Villages, at least for my house, everything was cheaper. If you're a new villager make sure you go through that stack of paperwork they provide you so you know who to call. Don't get ripped off like I almost did. I could've saved $75 though by not calling that other company. At least for me, Sunkool WAS cool!
