Simple plumbing/handyman job in Spanish Springs

Hi,
My main potable water valve in the garage (quarter turn 3/4" PVC) is not working properly. Seeking a plumber or handyman to replace in-line valve. Home watch person can gain access to house in my absence. No need to up-sell to whole house filter system, etc...appreciated.

I see you have not had any replies, this may be due to this being a little more complicated.
I am assuming the valve needs to be replaced this means the water has to be turned off at the meter which typically requires a special wrench. The hot and cold-water valves in say the kitchen need to be opened to bleed off any pressure in the system. The old valve needs to be cut out, and depending on the arrangement of the existing piping several pieces of valves, elbows, couplings, and pipe may be required to install the new valve. IMHO, this may be beyond most of the typical handyman. I would suggest Mike Scott for this work.

Roger Pearce did this exact job for me back in May, at a very reasonable price. In my case he also replaced the valve outside the house.

For those who don't want to replace their PVC valve, this tool is an easy alternative in the 3/4 inch size. It protects the valve handle from breaking, and makes it very easy to turn it off and on.

Note that you may also have a PVC valve on the cold water pipe near the water heater. This valve can come in handy if your water heater or expansion tank starts to leak. It will allow you to shut off the hot water, but still have cold water in the house. If you shut off the main valve, you will have no water.

I had seen previous posts of yours regarding that tool and thought about getting it, but one of my valves started leaking when I applied pressure by hand. Also, my pipes were CPVC. Both valves were replaced with brass valves.

If the valve leaks, you don't have much choice but to replace it. I have the tool and it gives me peace of mind knowing that I can close the valve if I need to. It also works on the valve near the water heater. Most people will rarely need to use the main shut-off valve, unless they are a snowbird. So far, the only valves I have replaced are the two toilet push-pull plastic valves with metal valves. They didn't leak, but I didn't trust them when replacing toilet parts.
