Tamko Underlayment - Melting and Defective. Now What?

The Solar Guys installed a roof vent fan and did some gutter work for me in 2019. I just recently noticed some melted tar accumulating underneath a valley where they installed a gutter.

The Solar Guys replied to my email where I assumed the tar like substance was the sealant they had used in a gutter seam. They informed me this was due to theTamko underlayment that was used when my house was built in 2015. This material is widely known to be defective and melts into tar in the Florida environment.

The Solar Guys are going to send a Rep and have offered to shepherd the process of getting a free roof replacement as Tamko is liable.

Would really like to hear from other Villagers who had similar problems with Tamko underlayment and successfully solved the problem.

Thanks,
Doug

We have done many of these Tamko warranty claims and will be able to help you through the process. There isn't much that can be done to "repair" the issue if the underlayment is melting. The roof will need to be replaced. We will document the issue to submit to Tamko. At that point Tamko will have to approve the warranty claim.

We have a page with more information on this issue. TAMKO(R) Warranty Inspections - The Roof Guys
