Roofing replacements

Help me work through this......PLEASE. I have noticed so many of my neighbors having their roofing replaced....I mean everywhere. My daddy told me when I was growing up, "son, don't become a doctor or a lawyer, become a owner of a roofing company, they make tons of money.

It seems all this began a comple of years ago. I noticed that almost every other house in Liberty Park had a sign out front to the effect that Joe's & Moe's roofing company was replacing their roofing. I asked about this and learned that the roofing company rang the door bells and told the owner that, if they would like the company inspect their roof, they would turn in a claim to the home owner's insurance to the effect that the roofing was damaged and need replacing immediately. To make the cheese more binding, the roofing company would submit a claim far in excess of the actual costs for the home owner would not have to end up paying a deductable.

Since then, I am hearing that the roofing in The Villages are not expected to last more than 10 years. I lived in St. Pete, Tampa, Sarasota, Tallahassee and Jacksonville and there was never any such longevity. I've two companies ring my doorbell asking to allow and inspection. My insurance company says, ain't no way. If need be the insurance company will have an inspector come and check things out.

Am I dillusioned or should I get one of these guys up on my roof ASAP?

This is the tail end of a great big roofing scam. If your insurance company doesn’t think you need a new roof, that they are not going to pay for, guess who will pay.
Rather than listen to the door knockers…..call one (or 2) of the reputable roofing companies in the area for their opinion…if you think your roof is failing, then discuss with your insurance company.
Whatever you do…..I suggest you NOT sign an assignment of insurance.

Lastly search on here for some threads on this scam.

BTW, insurance premiums in Florida have partially increased dramatically due to all the folks that got the “free” roofs.

some houses built around 2014 have a roof problem. certainteed shingles have the granules falling off of the shingle making them less water proof.

So what problem are you having with your roof? Some scammer knocked on door told you bunch of falsehood? Now you think you need new roof. No problem they cost between 11 and 20 plus thousand. You’re bout 2 year late to cash in on Insurance scam. Rest of use suffering because of it.
I call the scammers 3 tab hunters. The see 3 tab roof you can her brakes squeal thinking the got fish on hook. :highfive:

If I recall correctly, there are also some roofs that the underlayment is failing, and the only remedy is to replace the entire roof. So, if you are having a problem with your roof contact your insurance company and discuss with them. If this is a material problem then the supplier of the roofing material should be covering the cost of replacement, if the roof has real weather damage, your insurance should be covering the cost, if your roof is old and worn out, you will be covering the cost.

85% of property insurance lawsuits are in Florida that is why our insurance is skyrocketing. My guess is that there has never been a door knocker roofer that inspected a roof that didn’t find damage.

If there is anyone out there who is aware of someone getting a new roof that was paid for by the insurance company in the last year please post the story. I was under the impression that these free roof offers by the installers were prevented by the new legislation.

I do know first hand that Florida Roof Specialists are still knocking on doors.

I’m curious . . . Which came first (i) insurance companies refusing to insure a house with a 15 year old roof, or (ii) roofing company door knockers? I think the insurance companies created the problem.

MrFlorida 07-28-2024 08:44 AM

Most roofs are being replaced because the insurance company's rates skyrocket after 15 years.

Lightning 07-28-2024 08:47 AM

If you need to replace your roof and have a lightning protection system (lightning rods) contact your lightning system installer to lay it back while the old roof is removed and the new roof is installed. After the county inspection your lightning system installer will re-install your lightning system. Lightning systems have never been more valuable as we have experienced five homes destroyed and two near misses to date in this lightning season. None had a lightning protection system.

To me everytime we have a hailstorm they’ll say you’ll need a new roof. It just seems to me if your roof is 5 yrs. or older & you want to sell your home you got to replace your roof, Hot Water Heater or something. We moved from Ohio to Florida then Texas & we never were told to replace anything in Ohio or FL.Is it because manufacturers make things cheaper for this reason. Just can’t believe products are made this bad today, is it the Ins. companies that control us & what is made or is it that the Ins. companies are going broke, so they’re making the consumer pay for these things. Not trying to sound like an expert, just asking what’s going on!

Why should the insurance company pay for a new roof. If it's wear and tear the homeowner shoukd pay for it.

Villagetinker, I see some solar panel companies advertise free solar panels, so who pays to have Solar Panels taken off & back on if you have to have a new roof which you pay for then? I I would think you would have to pay to have to pay to have Solar Panels to be put back on, because I wouldn’t think the Solar Panel would pay for it. I’ve asked this very question to the Solar Panel company & never got a answer. You seem pretty witty about a lot of things!

Margefrog 07-28-2024 09:29 AM

It would never occur to me that H.O. insurance would pay for roof maintenance, unless it was hit by lightning or hurricane. It seems if a roof wears prematurely, the installation was bad to start with. So buyer beware. No?
