Another Walmart coming to TV

Aug. 12 Daily Sun, page C4

Walmart has filed plans with a state agency to potentially build a new store in The Villages. The retailer is proposing construction of a new Walmart Supercenter at Morse Boulevard and State Road 44 in front of The Villages Grown farm. It would be the third Walmart in The Villages, joining the Walmart Supercenter at Buffalo Ridge and Walmart Neighborhood Market at Sarasota Plaza.

There's also a Walmart Supercenter on 441 just a few blocks north of the Hospital and the "Historic Section," with a golf cart path Villagers can use to get there and back.

I guess they'll need to be adding another cart tunnel below Morse to get to that side.

I gather this is on land owned by the developer. I imagine Walmart negotiated a good deal for itself.

Based on the land footprint, I would be surprised if Villages Grown won't be relocated to accomodate this. The developer has has plenty of spare land in better locations than this one for their greenhouse operation.

If that's part of Wildwood there will be no sewage hookup available until 2027 at the earliest waiting for the much anticipated sewage treatment plant. That should put a grand opening in the year 2028 if all goes well.

We were pleased to read this story in the paper since we've been looking for a sensibly priced supermarket in the southern section.

It's a journey to get to the neighborhood Walmart (basic selections) or the WM superstores in the northern sections.

We only do drive up at the Leesburg WM as it is not high on our list of places to shop inside.

Great Spot

That’s a great spot. The intersection is no more dangerous than any other. IMO, it seems much safer than most. As far as a cart path, I would have my doubts. Although Villages Grown is there, the area is kind of landlocked by private property and Morse/44. The Continental Country Club is to the west, Sandalwood apartments owns to the South and 44/Morse are its North and East boundaries. It’s very possible the Villages as zero say so and doesn’t even own the property.

Either way, it’s a welcome addition. Perhaps it even gets done before our Super Target store by Lowe’s.

It should enhance occupancy of the Kristen Way development across the street too. Maybe this will be the catapult or catalyst to 44’s development up to 301.

If you build it...they will come...

If you live here

“Most of the locals are saying,”Yah, not another Publix, Citizen’s First or set of medical offices!” It will be so much nicer than driving to Leesburg or even to the Super Target still not completed in Wildwood.

Better a Walmart, than apartment buildings.

We're south of 44 and were happy this type of high traffic generating big box store wasn't in our immediate area. Oh well, nothing stays the same.

Don't worry, the Walmart Supercenters in Fruitland Park and way up in Summerfield have taken care of the normal Walmart shoppers of which you speak...

I've had the pleasure of going to the super Walmart in Leesburg several times recently, out of 4 or 5 trips I've been accused of theft 3 times. Ok, maybe not accused but checked at the door and self checkout to ensure I wasn't up to no good. I haven't stole anything in 60 years! (lets not talk about the 5 and dime when I was a kid, and fire works, and my grandpas best friend the town police chief).

If they put a Walmart at this location traffic will come to a stand still.

Off topic posts related to the 44/Morse intersection have been given their own thread.
