Should a new epoxied garage floor look this rough?

Ours has some texture. Maybe not that much.

If it's too smooth and you have water on it you will slip.... Ask me how I know..... It's a wonderful surface and protects the concrete but when you get it wet or up north you drive your car in the winter and the ice melts off and refreezes on it....

Floor

I do this for a living. It should not look like that. Did you just have it done?

OP, after blowing your pictures up, I see what you mean, this does not look right. I have neighbors that did their own and it looks much better than what you have. I hope the installer will offer to fix this.

Never have a problem with slipping or standing water with this type of snap in floor.

Byte1 08-15-2024 04:26 PM

Yes, you want it rough. If it was smooth and you had water on it, you could/would take a nasty fall. My last home just had sealer on it and a little water got on it near the door. I took a bad fall, but didn't break anything. I was lucky. They throw the paint chips on it to make it rough for traction. My garage floor looks like yours and it still looks as good as it did seven years ago when I had it done.

If those are bubbles, they will peel. This whole epoxy floor thing in The Villages is a rip off. The floors are just more cost, maintenance, and trouble. They are slippery even with additive, hot tires will eventually leave places on floor, spill wrong thing they are ruined, AC water eventually leaves spot, have to seal it every couple years. Just buy Made in USA Gfloor mat. Fraction of the cost, arrives unroll. It and you are done. No slipping, sealing, provide American jobs, no spills worries, roll it up and take with you if you move. Check Manufacturer, Amazon, Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot for best sale price G-Floor Polyvinyl Garage Flooring and Outdoor & Marine Flooring

Texture

IF you wanted texturing, YES you got it.
IF you wanted smooth, NO not so much.
What did you ask for?

Yes. They actually came by yesterday afternoon and knock the peaks of and are giving it another coat today. The floor actually looks nice but was way rougher than what I had back home.

That looks like the “grit” they put in it to make it non-slip. Ours didn’t have it & I wish it did because if it’s just a little damp it’s EXTREMELY slippery and I have had many close calls. But I will say, either way (ours is approximately 7 years old) it chips & ends up looking awful.

Mazjaz 08-16-2024 05:41 AM

It actually looks nice but rough. The installer came by yesterday afternoon and knock the peaks off and is recoating today.

A happy end to the story with a contractor that stands behind his work. Now that is a nice change to the usual we get on here. If you end up happy, you might mention his name.

Consider your self fortunate. You won’t slip when dew forms on it, a real problem for smooth coatings.
