New Golfer
 

I am a beginner golfer and would like to play golf with beginners. I live in Tamarind Grove and would like to golf nearby. I am out to have fun and improve my game. Where can I join a group of fun non serious golfers.

If you're a beginner just out to have some fun and meet folks more or less of the same mindset, I'd suggest calling El Santiago golf course (about a mile off El Camino Real across from the entrance to Alhambra). Relatively short course, wide fairways, large greens sloping toward the tee box and dinner-plate - sized holes. Longest hole (from the black) is about 150 yards: most in the 125 - 130 range, closer from gold or green.

You don't need to use the scheduling system; just call the course directly and see if you can get scheduled with a group, most groups seem to play in the morning. Most afternoons just show up and no problem getting on: lots of TV'ers don't golf in the afternoons right now because of the heat.

First, I would talk with your neighbors. They may know of a neighborhood group that is out for fun.

Second, take some group lessons for beginners. You will learn a lot about the game and will have a better chance of developing a good swing which will help you enjoy the game more. While in the lessons, ask others if they would like to play together to practice what you are learning.

Finally, take the good golf school if you haven’t already.
