Indoor Pickleball

Just saw The Village's YouTube video on Olympia (Rec) Taking Shape In Eastport. The narrator mentioned, in addition to 4 basketball courts and 2 volleyball courts, 6 pickleball courts will all be in the indoor gym. This is in addition to the large, non-Village, indoor pickleball facility being built in the top half of The Villages.

Can you wear EarPods or Bose or some other kind of noise cancelling device? I mean, pickleball racket (pun intended) is bad enough with the outdoor courts - I can't imagine how damaging and hard to concentrate it will be with indoor courts! If you're trying to play volleyball, the echoing of the incessant Ker-Plop from 100 feet away is akin to freeway noise (70db) according to this detailed study (The sound of pickleball – a detailed explanation, and what you need to consider before building courts – Crazy Pickleball Lady).

I'm pretty certain indoor pickleball will not be a sustainably pleasant activity.

I played indoor pickleball in gyms for a few years before we moved here. The sound level is no big deal and it's a pleasant environment when the temp is in the 90s.

How about, that’s great, indoor pickleball.

Playing on a wood gym floor is not the same as playing on concrete outside or inside. The ball is softer (thus the lower sound dB) which bounces off the floor differently and tends to skid. It's like shooting a shotgun vs shooting a handgun. Same concept, but totally different feel.

In other places, there courts are shared but not set up to be concurrent at the same time.

Each sport will probably have their own day/time.

If you think the complaints about lap swimming are bad, wait for the complaints about indoor pickleball time next summer.

Will be interesting to see how they manage the compromises for the facility.

I'm not a big fan of multipurpose courts for Pickleball. Too many lines for the different sports.

I play indoors here every week and the noise seems pretty much the same. Though that could be from the padded laminate floor.

Indoor play takes away lots of excuses. Wind and sun for starts. Makes for great play.

I'm just wondering what fad sport is next on the list after Pickleball's inevitable decline.

Inevitable? I wouldn't bet on it unless one of the Climate Scientists determine that PB causes cancer. :pepper2:

Multiple studies are saying padel sports increase longivity 6-10 years.

It would have to reach it's apex, which is hasn't done yet. Hell, the developer keeps platform tennis alive for a couple of players.

Since the Platform courts are seldom used after 10am, they are great for drilling Pickleball ;-)
