I've heard of them being installed over the CC slot on a gas pump, but I'm trying to imagine the state of lawlessness that must exist in Massachusetts for it to be possible for someone to walk in and install one on a reader in the middle of a busy super market.
Is there some new kind of CC stealer small enough to be installed with nobody noticing the installer? What does hitting it do? My CC barely works in tap mode as it is. I don't see how they'd be able to pick up my CC from even farther away than the real reader.

There was a surveillance video showing a customer distracting the cashier while an accomplish slipped a skimmer over the card swipe. I don't remember where it happened but if I can find it again I'll post the link here.
EDIT: Not the video I was thinking of but here is one from just a couple days ago.
Tap-to-pay, including Apple Pay, works well for me.
