Morse Intersect with 44

Heading south on Morse and turning right onto 44, lane is marked proceed straight and right turn. Many who are going straight heading south prevent those who want to turn right. Many times one vehicle holds up 10 or so behind them. Who do we contact about making that right lane for turns only?

Heading south on Morse and turning left on 44 there is a dedicated left turn lane but that lane is often blocked by a line of traffic in the left lane waiting to go straight. There might be only two cars in the turn lane but several others stuck behind those going straight. Since both Morse and 44 can support two left turn lanes, who do we contact about making the left lane on Morse a left turn only lane.

Traffic/civil engineers don't always plan intersections for maximum traffic expected, but more on the average traffic expected. There are studies done for these calculations, I did one in grad school during an optimization class using LINDO . . sounds old?

The goal is to not overbuild for average expected traffic. . though the civil engineers always fail with the average number of parking spots. . always underbuild to the average expected, never the maximum expected. . . so when the maximum is observed, its most frustrating. .

All won’t matter

It will all go topsy turvy anyway with the construction of the Walmart there on the corner.

That is a large intersection with traffic on 44 charging through at 55mph and higher. Making a right on 44 on a red is (imho) just begging to be t-boned or rear-ended in disastrous fashion. Maybe safer and smarter would be a "No right on red" sign. A bit of patience might save a life. The light will change in a minute (or two). Relax!

Another solution would be to reduce the speed limit on Rt 44 in that area to 45 mph.

Agree! Then they would surely slow down. (Sarcasm)

Why stop there? Since we all know that drivers will exceed the posted speed limit by 10mph on an unobstructed roadway with an artificially low limit, if you want any potential collision to occur at 45mph then it should be marked as a 35mph maximum. Maybe even 25mph just to be safe.

OR, we could resist catering to the most fearful or least capable and instead require drivers to act appropriately. Don’t run red lights, don’t dart out into traffic, don’t let impatience impair your judgement, and basically, don’t do stupid stuff.

And if 44 is simply too dangerous then use 44A or 466A.

Or maybe---just maybe--people should learn to drive and look left before making their turn on red. If you don't have the judgement or driving ability to distinguish the speed of an oncoming car before turning into their lane of traffic, perhaps it's time to surrender your license. And while I'm on it, that L hand turn arrow that changes to red is even more ridiculous. When turning left from Morse southbound onto 44 east, you can see oncoming traffic for at least 1/2 mile. So why do you have to sit there for 2-3 minutes when absolutely no vehicles are coming in the opposite direction? Because some idiot had an accident there once? Because the weak drivers clamored for it in the name of "safety". What a joke. If you can't look 1/2 mile down the road before proceeding to make that left, again, turn your license in. OK, end of rant. Now all those who shouldn't be driving can pile on. I can't wait to hear the ridiculous chorus of "You're retired, what's the hurry".

Drivers are already required to act appropriately, but they don't. 🫠

So, you would like two straight lanes to reduce to one straight lane just before an intersection. Not a good idea. I go through that intersection often. Traffic backs up only sometimes. Most of the time there is no problem.

Six-point safety harnesses and helmets then?

It wouldn't surprise me if those same weak drivers were in favor of that as well
