e-waste recycling or disposal

Good morning

My recent posting to relieve myself of a computer, monitor, printer and modems solicited no interest so I would like to get them to an e-waste recycling place.

In the past, I have taken stuff to the twice-yearly collection at SweetBay in Lake Sumter Landing but now that the location has changed I am unable to get there (in my golf cart).

Is there a golf-cart-accessible store that accepts electronic items for recycling (or proper disposal)?

Do people still come round on trash collection days and remove items of interest from driveways?

Thank you

Staples will take it for free and even give you some rewards points.

thank you, rg123

they seem to accept all I need to get rid of (charge for monitors) so that's where I'll be heading on Monday

Put 'em out on the curb the day before your trash is collected. I've divested myself of everything from a still-good-but-no-longer needed printer to a 32" TV (with remote) to a box of wine glasses to whatever that way. All still good.

I should certainly prefer these (still usable) items to go to a good home, rather than in the trash - will give it a shot

Just remember: alkaline batteries CANNOT be recycled. Throw them in the trash. Staples accepts rechargeable batteries but a lot of store managers neglect to train their employees about this, and the counter clerk takes whatever you give them. Problem is - Staples doesn't do its own recycling, they contract it out. The contracted company is not permitted by law to accept alkaline batteries, and they will fine Staples up to $100,000 per box even if the box has only ONE alkaline battery in it.

Every time the customer does this, and the employee neglects this, it drives prices up.

Hi, this is Maryann, I got the projector from you yesterday. I do have a family member who could use the computer, etc. if it is still available.

Excellent - I will be out some of today and tomorrow so I'll leave all of the stuff in the front porch right now and they can just take whatever they want

Everything (apart from the bulbs) taken overnight :-)

Glad that they went to someone who can use them, rather than being trashed

I convert many computers from Windows to Linux, an open and safe operating system. Many people do not need the power of Windows (and all the problems that go with it). Linux can do many of the same things Windows can do without anyone tracking everything you do. (BTW, I don't charge for this "service" because Windows forces people to "upgrade" to New computers when Linux works very well on older ones).
