Bands playing 90's+

My son is visiting and I need help finding bands he might like. These are the bands that I am not familiar with that are playing while he is here. He just went to a Metallica concert in Vancouver if that helps.

Hacksaw Hamlin, AmpliFires, Beauty & The Beats, Groove Slayers, Radlin’ Rootz, Studio 77, Anita Drink Band, Ferris Deluxe, ICON, Leonard Brothers Band, Rundown Band, 5.0.1.

Get the app

Unofficial Guide - The Villages

Go to Nightly Music

They list all the bands playing at the squares and if you click on the band they describe the type of music they play.

Sorry to say music here in TV barely breaks into the 80's, let alone the 90's. There are a very few that play a some newer music in their later sets. But not many, much to my dismay.

Many villagers are closed minded and have no tolerance for newer music, and think they stopped making good music in 1980.

They want all the old crap over and over. I love newer music, including some of the bands you named like Metallica.

I've talked with quite a few people who feel like I do and don't go to the squares for this reason. But TV entertainment is afraid to try anything out of the box. With 4 venues playing music 365 days a year you would think they would have some newer music once or twice a month.

I've even talked to the TV entertainment group about this when they set up a booth at the square. But i don't think they care that they're ignoring a large group of people that would enjoy more variety. Good luck and let me know if you find a band that fits what you want.

Speak for yourself, eh?

To the OP:

First of all, Metallica isn't exclusively a 90's band. It's an 80's band that's gone through a bunch of lineup changes and still cuts gold records currently. But if he's into Metallica, he probably is into Pantera, Megadeath, Black Sabbath, maybe Slayer, and Korn. This is all heavy metal. There are no heavy metal bands that play in The Villages. It's possible one of the more "rock-oriented" bands does a version of Rainbow in the Dark (Ronnie James Dio, a singer of Black Sabbath), but I doubt it.

Tell him I empathize. I was a metal head back in the 80's and still like the more "orchestral" metal like Metallica, Sabbath, and Nightwish. If he hasn't been introduced to Nightwish yet (he hopefully knows them well), he needs to check out Ghost Love Score video, feat. Floor Jansen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYjIlHWBAVo

Old people can be headbangers too.

Dio was not the original vocalist for Black Sabbath

Dio was not the first lead vocalist for Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne founded the band with Tony, Geezer and Bill in 1968 and sang with them until first leaving in 1978.

Dio came to Sabbath later, after singing with Blackmore's Rainbow from 1975 - 1978 (great live band). Dio joined Sabbath in 1979.

Hmm, I wasn’t aware they made any good music after the 70’s? Curmudgeon’s unite : )

Incorrect, While I prefer 80's and country, I graduated high school in 1987, so my college and young adult 20's were in the 90's and the soundtrack of that time was/is 90's music.

Boy, some of you are very nasty regarding lots of Villagers’ music tastes. Maybe they just like the older music more. Is that not allowed? Sheesh.

Not sure how y'all can say they don't play anything newer. On any given night at any square, you will hear the following songs ad nauseum:
Uptown funk
Shut up and dance with me
Fireball
Tennessee Whiskey
Just to mention a few.

None of these are things that a metallica fan would probably enjoy.

JoMar 11-29-2024 01:14 PM

I wonder how many would attend and would use the shops or restaurants when that music would be played. Remember who pays for the entertainment and would their business increase or decrease. Not sure I would enjoy sitting outside and listening to metal during my meal. I believe they already know the answer. If you enjoy that music get your like minded friends and hire a metal band for your enjoyment. Maybe you could rent Sawgrass on the nights they don't have a band scheduled.

Absolutely allowed! Old worn out music is what we get pretty much every night at all 4 venues.
My question to you, is newer rock music not allowed? Many people like it.

About 18 months ago The Hooligans played LSL as a band called Anti Idol. Everything they played was after 1990, and it was awesome. Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Metallica to name a few.

Believe or not they even played music from this century! Gasp!

Btw, the place was totally packed and people treated it like a rock concert.

Davonu 11-29-2024 01:33 PM

Hey, any variation of The Hooligans…The Hooligans, The Spazmatics, Anti Idol…will pack The Villages, Disney, or anyplace else!!! They’re my family’s favorite band(s)!!

But we still like all that old-fogie stuff other Villages bands play too! You are allowed to like both. :)

Yeah and we get those bands maybe 3 times a year between all 3. There's no shortage of all the old crap. Thats 98% of the bands here.

I'm just saying we need more variety. If you like the old stuff you can pretty much find it every night.
