Yamaha Quietech Stopped Moving

Have a 2017 Yamaha and has been running fine, no issues. Backed out of garage today, Put in F to turn and drive away. Went enough to turn but stopped and end of driveway and would not move, forward or reverse. Any experience of a similar problem and what the cause was?

Battery died?

Bad ground wire would be the first thing to check. Poorly crimped wires can become loose over time. I doubt it’s the battery if the cart backed up no problem and then suddenly died?

Does it make any sound even though it does not move? Do any of the electronics (speedometer, lights, horn, etc) work when the key is turned on?

If it went forward enough to turn then I assume the engine was running at the time. If it stopped moving while the engine was running then the best you could hope for is a broken drive belt. This is something that should be pretty obvious if you lift the seat.

Another, less likely, possibility is a broken starter belt. You might hear the starter motor (generator) whirring when you press the pedal but it could be too quiet to hear. Again, if you lift the seat you would see the broken belt or at least the empty pulleys where a belt should be.

If it isn't one of those two easy problems then it could be any number of things like a blown fuse, a bad starter motor, a bad ground or other loose connection, etc. Others might have things to look into but it could be time to call a repairman.

If your battery is over 3-4 years old, it could still be the battery. I had a gas cart years ago that did exactly what you're saying. New battery fixed it.
The other first thing that you can check is a blown fuse.
Otherwise get a cart tech out to diagnose.

Dead battery my guess, but why guess?

Take the guess out of batteries and get one of these. ANCEL BTS200 battery analyzer. It will tell the condition of the battery you don’t have to mechanical have knowledge it tells you if it good or bad.

Amazon.com: ANCEL BST200 Battery Tester 12V Automotive, Car Battery Tester 100-1100 CCA Battery Load Tester Tool Digital Analyzer for Car Truck Motorcycle SUV Boat and More : Automotive

Or similar and shop around can be as low as 30 bucks.

Takes all the guessing out of condition of battery.

Broken cable from gas pedal to drive.

Most likely a dead battery.

I just had something similar happen, the secondary clutch failed, there was a clunk and then I was in limp mode. Depending on the failure I could see the cart failing to move. In this case the engine was able to run the cart would barely move. If your engine stopped and would not start again, then I would be looking for a blown fuse. NOTE: there is a 25 amp fuse on the NEGATIVE side of the battery that kills everything. While I have not experienced it, I am guessing a cable failure in the forward/reverse control could cause this type problem.
I would need more info on what exactly happened.

You didn’t say if the motor shut down and wouldn’t move or just died and wouldn’t restart. If the motor is still running then you have a transmission problem

Does the engine run?

If so - look too the secondary clutch or (hopefully) the drive belt.
Replacing drive belt is a (relatively) easy/quick job.

Battery

This happens to me sometimes. I pull up the seat and loosen and tighten the battery connection cable and it starts working again.
