Question For Snowbirds and Renters

Hi:

I rented last year for two months. I am renting again in Jan/Feb. I loved all the activities but found that some it was difficult to participate in because I wasn't a part of the group. Such as, no one to play bocce, shuffleboard, cards, boardgames, whatever with. When I went to an activity listed, let's say, open card games at Eisenhower, everyone already had their group they were playing with, understandably. Once in a while I found others in the same predicament and hooked up with them to play whatever. Any other renters or snowbirds have the same issues and were you able to find any groups to play games with? Thanks!

I find that word (invitations) gets around, at the pool. Also I just show up. I remember I showed up to learn to play MahJongg at SeaBreeze last year, but for some reason it was cancelled, however, they had cardio drumming in the parking lot. Which was even more fun for me.

Then there was the time when hubby and I visited a painting group at a rec center. I paint plein air, so I wanted to see what art they did. They were inside and hardly wanted to let us go, they were so inviting.

Hubby and I used to play shuffleboard. Hubby suddenly passed. I have not been able to face a shuffleboard since that day… but now, 2 and half years later, I think I might. My strategy is just to show up where it is not a dedicated group (no outsiders) and just watch, see if I get an invitation. If not I will have enjoyed my cart ride and the day. And there is always tomorrow.

Thank you!! This is a very helpful answer. Everyone is so nice as you said, so that takes the awkwardness of meeting new people away.
