Unclaimed Funds for me! Check to find yours...
I've lived in TV for 4 months now and am enjoying the heck out of myself. Along with everything else, just being able to see and be around lush, green foliage year-round makes me happy.
As a New Year's gift to everyone, I thought I'd pass along very useful information that readers would appreciate. In my 20s, decades ago, I worked in the financial industry and knew about the Unclaimed Funds, every state holds. Back then, if you wanted to learn whether they had any money of yours, you had to write a letter to the Sec of State (SoS), it would take a couple months and you'd hear back by postal mail. I'd long forgotten about that kind of thing but, earlier in 2024, I saw an online article about that topic and thought to myself, 'I've lived in 3 states the last many decades and with the internet, I bet it's easier to find out about unclaimed funds'. So, I did a search for the state where I'd lived the longest, Georgia. Cool, jackpot! In a matter of minutes, I discovered they were holding $390.00 of mine. Who knew? The backstory, which goes to show there could be money waiting for you to claim too. The $390 was from a former employer that I left in Autumn of 2003. Wow, what? I had continued to live at my same home address until Spring of 2008 so, why hadn't they just mailed me a check in that five year period? I call the SoS office in GA to inquire, they informed me the money was turned over to them in 2009. Mighty strange. I still don't know what that money was about all those years after I left but, figure it was a related to what a company audit coughed-up. From the start of me searching online to when I had a check in my hand for $390 was a bit less than three weeks. Nice. Think about that...the money had been sitting there since 2009 but, I had no way of knowing. Had I not seen that article, it probably would still be with the state of GA. I went on to check the other two states where I'd lived but, they had no $$ for me. Given everybody here moved from elsewhere, it makes sense for you all to check and it's really easy. Just use keywords: unclaimed funds..plus state name. Example: unclaimed funds georgia -- produces this: Georgia Unclaimed Property | Department of Revenue It would be very fun to hear stories on this thread of any found money you people have discovered too. Happy New Year 2025! |
