McDonald's backs away from their DEI policy.

The changes were communicated by email on Monday to McDonald’s restaurant owners, operators, employees, and suppliers amid a backlash against diversity-focused initiatives and "woke" policies that picked up momentum across corporate America in 2024.

The list of companies that have backed away or adjusted such policies now includes many of the biggest names in business. Walmart (WMT), for example, backed away from its DEI initiatives in November following public and shareholder pressure to do so.

Home improvement giant Lowe’s (LOW), rural retailer Tractor Supply (TSCO), and tractor maker John Deere (DE) also announced retreats from DEI policies last summer.

Harley-Davidson (HOG), Jack Daniel’s maker Brown-Forman (BF-A), Polaris (PII), and its motorcycle subsidiary, Indian Motorcycle, are among the other recent pullbacks.

Seems to be a national trend. When many of these policies first went into effect I felt that many of the merchants putting them into effect did so because they felt they had no other choice.

The bottom line, always wins over policy!

As is the case today.

Costco is doubling down on their DEI program, where others have backed away they claim they are standing fast.

Unfortunately, Costco is doubling down on their DEI. Therefore they won't get my $$.

How about best qualified. Jeeez it ain't hard to understand.

How about just hiring the best candidate without regard to their race? If a minority is the best fit for the job, great, hire them. If they’re not, don’t.

Back in the 80’s when I got out of the service I applied at several fire departments. I had no chance of being hired BECAUSE I was white even when my test scores were higher. The only white guys that got hired was through nepotism. Let’s not return to those days.

That is what DEI is intended to do - best qualified even if it isn’t a white male.

DEI policies exist to INCLUDE whoever was previously EXcluded as potential candidates. In other words:

Applications from people named Bettia, Yussef, Mohammed, Pablo, LeShaquita, etc - were automatically rejected. They never got an interview.

DEI policies changed that, and gave people with those names a shot, if their qualifications were the same as the Mark, Sue, Mary, Anthony, and Sandy who did get the interview. It also eliminated the "what gender are you" on applications and during the interview process. It shouldn't matter what your gender is. Either you're qualified for the job or you're not.

Hard to find people to fill jobs in the first place? How about the masked interview….solved, best candidate wins.

Do the robots that will be flipping burgers and cooking fries meet DEI criteria?

Neither will they get my “worked hard all my life” $$$. I supposed their DEI policy is why so many Villagers here are clamoring for it.

bobeaston 01-08-2025 05:53 AM

Not worried about burger flippers, whiskey merchants, or parts for my tractors. The DEI that I REALLY care about is United Airlines and others. Having less than the best in the cockpit is a risk that nobody should want.

The hiring goal should always be "the best qualified for the job" no matter what race or gender.
