Squares Empty

No entertainment at any of the squares tonight, I'm guessing because of the temperature?

It’s hard to play the guitar when your fingers won’t move. :1rotfl:

Yes, temperatures. The Villages app shows the entertainment is cancelled at all squares.

Eh. When I was a busker in Boston I used to play guitar in the subways all year. They didn't have heat down there. On the coldest days outside, it would usually get to around 40 underground. I've also played while standing on top of a foot of snow, outside in Harvard Square, when the temperatures were under 40 (and over 35). Not fun, but not impossible. When performing is your primary income, you play where the money is. For me, that was Harvard Square outside, and Park Street station underground.

They cancel when it is too cold.

My wife and I played doubles tennis last evening. Took awhile to warm up but wasn't too bad. I wouldn't have liked to have been sitting in it though, especially with the wind; not that strong but you could sure feel it wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

Wise move to cancel the entertainment.

I think 50 degrees is the cutoff, just like golf.

MarshBendLover 01-08-2025 10:57 AM

I don't think it has anything to do with them not wanting to play. I think it's based on the number of people who would actually come and sit for for a few hours and really enjoy the music.

I will sit in a heavy rain or cold evening wind watching a concert that I paid for months in advance for Loverboy or Boston. But if the same concert was free, although not happy about it, I would skip the free concert. I'm sure the group members would also be happy to cancel and not look out and see only 7 people.

Just a guess, but, since the entertainment on the squares was always paid for through the Florida tourist advertising fund, not through villages amenity fees, I'm thinking perhaps the state is involved might mean a contract where all details such as weather, etc. are spelled out clearly ?

Good guess and probably tonight also since it was 35 this morning.

The guideline had been to close for forecast temperatures below 47.

What years did you play there? If 74-79 I might have seen you and tossed you a few quarters

Where are the tennis courts with lights here?
