If you built a pool with T&D, did they do the initial few weeks of sweeping it daily?

I am building a pool with T&D and they told me that it includes 10 weeks of service. Of course this is a way for them to hopefully sign you up for the service.

Anyhow a new gunite pool needs to be swept daily and chemicals checked and adjusted very carefully the first few weeks to help cure the plaster. The sales person said this would be handled.

I want to make sure because daily sweeping is quite different from weekly checks and vacuuming.

I am not looking for criticisms of T&D or people complaining about them. I already signed the contract.

I really just am interested in your experience with initial start up of the pool so I know if I need to plan to be home for the entirety of those weeks. I'm a part timer and still working so it will take some planning.

Thanks in advance.

The answer is yes, they did that when they built our pool. They were very professional and thorough. That was almost 8 years ago and the pool is still in almost new condition except for the usual stuff that eventually needs replacing like the salt cell and pump.

Good to know. It actually makes a lot of sense for a pool company to do this. The first few weeks are critical to proper curing. Pool companies leaving it to the homeowner risk warranty claims when it doesn't cure properly.

Good at pools, not so much at additions or remodels.

We just had our pool redone by T&D in 2024, after main construction they showed up every day to balance chemicals and brush down the walls. Though considerably more expensive, we are pleased with the way they did business. Other company we had bid on the pool said you would have to do all the post construction cleaning and balancing the chemicals.

That seems to be the norm. I was happy T&D does it. We had a few quotes and while T&D was the higher, I’d rather a company that I know will be in business for a few years. Sometimes a well functioning machine is worth more than a personal touch. I’ve heard some say T&D treated them like a number. I’m okay with that.

I know a lot of folks that had T&D do their pools, and not one of them got daily brushing of the pool. They offer weekly brushing and maintenance for the first 4-6 weeks. I actually don't know of any pool builder that offers daily brushing - it's generally left up to the owner. And if someone did offer it, I wouldn't trust that it wasn't a rushed job as this is a time consuming process.

I would always do it myself - this is one of the most critical times for a new plaster pool. (and you can't brush too much...)

If you did get daily brushing, this must be a new policy for them, and I applaud them for doing it correctly.

Our T&D pool is 2 years old. They come for 6 weeks because they want to make sure the pool is set up correctly. They had a long waiting list to get on their service after that so most likely it will be impossible to use them after that. They do recommend 2 companies you can use, but I ended up going with a different service which is wonderful.

I don’t remember them coming daily to brush the sides. I think it was a one or two times a week. Whatever they do you can be sure it will turn out perfect. They have a reputation and do stellar work.

All I know is that T&D is a super company and I have been with their service for years. They will always do what you need and you can be confident you made the right decision.

T&D built our pool 10 years ago there the best in the area and do not need micro managing. Do yourself a favor get the salt water system and the auto fill option this saves time and money so little maintenance

Used them for our pool and followed their plan all worked out well. I believe they are the best. Stay home when they service the pool to understand how it’s done.

T&D no longer have a pool service. The sold that part or gave it over to another entity. We know because the new ones aren't as good at service as T&D was. Big fan of everything about them.

BlackHarley 01-28-2025 10:17 AM

They still operate a 'premier pool service' , called VIP. The bulk of the contracts were bought and now operate as Patriot Pools.

Actually T&D has started pool service again. Not sure of the parameters to start service again.

I watched a T&D pool go in next door at the same time as my pool (by another builder). T&D did come the first few weeks to brush and check chemicals at my neighbor's pool, but it was hardly daily - more like a few times a week (and not on weekends). You must brush your pool at least once a day (ideally twice daily) for the first 30 days minimum, and add a lot of muriatic acid those first few weeks to keep the Ph in check. I would brush myself in addition to whatever the builder is offering to do. I have built 3 pools, and this is very very important.
